“First, it bears repeating that I didn’t know she belonged to them when I took Lorelei,” I pointed out. “Second, Molly isn’t an old lady.” Yet.

“She’s the oldest daughter of the fucking president!” Fox bellowed as he shoved back from his desk and shot to his feet. “The ultimate club princess.” He started pacing, a dark scowl on his face as he continued. “She’s un-fucking-touchable!”

Coming to a halt in front of me, he crossed his arms over his chest and stared down at me with an expression that would have had just about any other man crying for their momma. “Take her back. Now. Gonna try to get ahead of this and see if I can avoid war with the fucking Silver Saints.”

I jumped up and got in his face, consumed with rage over his order. “Never gonna fucking happen, Fox,” I seethed. “Molly is not going anywhere.” In any other time and circumstance, I would not go against Fox. He was a president and my best friend, and I respected those roles. But when it came to my woman, there was no boundary I wouldn’t cross. Nothing I wouldn’t do to keep her.

“Paper-thin fucking ice, Maverick.” His chest expanded slowly as he sucked in a deep breath, then exhaled it evenly. A muscle jumped in his jaw, and he took a single step closer, bringing us less than a foot apart. “Last time you put us in the Silver Saints’ crosshairs, your sister’s connection saved you and gave me an excuse not to kick your ass to the curb. You don’t have that ace up your sleeve this time.”

“I—”

Fox held up his hand so I swallowed what I was going to say and waited until he was ready to hear it.

“You’ve been my brother since the day you were born. Always trusted you, and while it got a little dented in the situation with Kansas, it didn't break. So I’m gonna give you one shot to convince me why I shouldn’t kick your ass and dump you on the street with the garbage, then take Molly back myself. One chance to convince me that I should back you on this.”

“She’s mine.” The truth was the only defense I had. “Moment I met her, I knew. Soon as I can convince her of that, I’ll get my property patch on her and my baby in her belly.”

Fox’s eyes widened ever so slightly, I’d have missed it if I didn’t know him so well. “You’re sure you can convince her to agree?”

I nodded.

“Willing to bet the club on it? Because that’s what you’re doing. If I let her stay even a few more hours, I’m making it clear that we are behind you.” Fox pressed his lips together and narrowed his eyes, studying me intently.

When I didn‘t flinch, or even react, some of the tension in his shoulders leached out, and I let out a mental sigh of relief. “She’s it for me, brother,” I told him. “Need to call Tank and have his old lady work on a property patch.”

Fox nodded and dropped his arms as he made his way back around his desk and sat. “He’s here for a meeting. I’ll let him know.”

We talked business for a few minutes, but I was anxious to get back to my girl.

“Go. Figure your shit out. You still good to hold down the fort tomorrow?”

We had a run scheduled, and Fox liked to go from time to time, so I’d run shit while he was gone. Plus, this was a contact who would only work with me or Fox, so one of us had to go.

“Yeah.” I stood and jerked my chin up at him in farewell before starting for the door.

“Mav.”

I was at the threshold when I heard him say my name, so I halted and turned around.

“Better get her on board real fucking fast. She’s the only person who’ll be able to save your ass from a man the Devil himself wouldn’t cross.”

MOLLY

Cooling my jets in Maverick’s room while he had it out with his president wasn’t my idea of a good time, but I distracted myself by being nosy. He was only gone for about half an hour, but it was long enough for me to go through his medicine cabinet, under the bathroom sink, his dresser and bedside table drawers, and glance in his closet.

Most people probably called what I was doing an invasion of his privacy, but he’d left me alone in his space after basically kidnapping me, so I figured that all bets were off. And I was curious about the guy who had brought my nonexistent libido to life. Plus, I’d learned from my dad how important gathering intel was. If they wouldn’t have gone running straight to him, I would’ve asked Hack or Grey to look into Maverick for me after the big birthday party at the compound.
