There could be a million answers to that one question but none of them mattered. My marriage and my wife were going to stay exactly where and how I wanted them. Whoever was behind this had to be rather desperate, and so was the hag since she dared to venture here.

She had to know that there’s no way she could win against me, not many can. So why was she risking her life and the elimination of her whole clan? Just what exactly was she after? It can’t be to help Sabrina fulfill her dream of getting me into her bed. No hag is that fucking dumb; though I’m pretty sure that that’s what Sabrina is after and I’m coming to believe that she is that dumb. But beldam, what’s her angle?

I held my wife a little bit closer as my heart ached. Her, they could possibly get away with harming if I’m not there to protect her. She has no real fighting skills, some but none that would stand up to anything a hag could unleash. And she’s pregnant, vulnerable.

The thought only served to piss me off more than I already was. No wonder my dragon was hanging around, he was in protection mode. Yes, but it’s dangerous for him to be this close when I’m fucking her, something someone else obviously knows and had manipulated for their own gain.

Someone is going to die a very horrible- painful death for this, for bringing me close to harming her. I hope for Sabrina’s sake that I’m wrong. That she hasn’t been dumb enough to cross the line, but somehow I knew this wasn’t the work of anyone else.

Deep down inside, even before my son showed me what had gone on between the two of them I knew something like this might happen. So much for my hoping that she’d get the message, that once my imprinting had been consummated that she’d move on since there was no hope for her and I ever being together.

Natalia mumbled some incoherent thought in her sleep and I held her closer, kissed her ear and put everything out of my mind for now. Tomorrow I will see about upping her guard detail and I’ll have a little talk with Bellaque about being distracted while he’s on duty.

Natalia

Why is he being so strange? He’s been on my ass for the past two days, not leaving when he’s been summoned and even putting off the meeting between his parents and I. He started off using me as his excuse in the beginning but once when his mom got too pushy and sent her head servant here to all but command an appearance I got to see the heir in action.

Now I know he’s a big momma’s boy, so the way he shut her down that day gave me lots to think about. He doesn’t know I overheard though, so I can’t even bring it up. I get the feeling though that there was more going on than him giving me time to get settled like he keeps saying.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone except him and Millicent in the last two days since he’s been keeping everyone else away and the lion is never too far from my side even when he’s here. He literally shadows my every step like he’s been ordered to or there will be consequences. They’re both making me daft.

The morning sickness I thought I was coming down with hadn’t made another appearance and in fact I’ve been feeling better than I have in forever. It’s this place. A place I had once thought forbidden, a place rife with darkness and all manner of evil, as I’d been led to believe, was anything but, at least from what I’ve seen so far.

There’s an air of calmness here that I’ve never felt anywhere else, not even in my ancestral home which is known to be as close to paradise as one can get. And everything is so much ‘more’, here.

It’s brighter, bigger, better, no matter what it is, and the food… I love teasing Lucien about the fact that I thought they only lived off the blood of humans. That one always gets him going, but far from it, they enjoy the same things we do only in wider abundance and always cooked to perfection.

So yes, everything is going splendidly better than I expected. I have no want for anything, even my clothes had already been made and waiting and I’m sure it was Lucien’s doing because though they were the robes of his people, there was a distinct difference in style; like he was trying to please the fairy and nymph in me.

I have no complaints and can’t wait to share all with my sisters, except for the strange way he’s been acting. Let’s just see how much he wants to hang around me and not let me even go out the door without him there to hold my hand.
