His fingers encountered warm, thick fur, proving him correct, and he got an angry “Mwrr,” as he shifted the feline bulk off his pillow.

Mika lifted her head from his chest, blinked sleepily at Tom, then looked beyond him.

“Moon, stop being a pain in Mommy’s ass,” she ordered the cat in a husky voice that had a physical effect on Tom’s anatomy.

Moon stepped on Tom’s chest to butt Mika’s face with his own, doing this purring.

White lower carriage, gray around his ears, eyes and sides of his face with more splotches down his back, full gray tail.

All the rest of the animals were Cadence’s.

Moon was Mika’s.

And Moon, along with Teddy, was not a fan of Tom.

He’d learned this before he woke with the cat’s ass in his face. He had scratches on his hip that Moon delivered while he was moving inside Mika last night.

The cat had drawn blood.

They’d had to stop what they were doing so Mika could shut him out of the room.

Tom understood why the cat was hers when she got up after they were done and opened the door to let him back in.

It was good to know Tom was her favorite guy.

But Moon came in at a close second.

“You’ll win him over,” Mika was saying.

“I don’t think so,” Tom replied.

She got out of bed and took hold of her cat.

She then walked to the door wearing a little, stretchy nighty in a dusky plum color that covered her to mid-thigh, was high up front and back, but dipped very low under her arms, exposing side breast and lots of skin almost to her waist.

It and her sex hair and her long legs and her entire affect was perfect in her surroundings.

Her main floor was brimming with life, memories and personality.

Her bedroom took that maximalist into overdrive.

The wall behind the bed was painted in a massive mural of gigantic flowers in pinks, purples and reds.

There were big plants. A leopard print chair matched with a gold and black zebra print ottoman. There was fringe. Brass. Different-shaped mirrors and art practically coating the fuchsia pink walls. There were stacks of books on the floor that rose to Tom’s hip. Gold-lacquered bamboo tables with glass tops. Floral lampshades. Ornaments that ranged from Chinese dogs to subversive Barbie doll art.

The bedclothes and the upholstery of the couch were heavy silk in bright, rich, warm shades of a pink that was almost red (couch) and purple that was almost blue (bed) with an overabundance of velvet, fake fur and animal print toss pillows.

Tom would never consider decorating a room like this or think he could abide spending time in one.

But when he’d walked in last night holding Mika’s hand, it felt like a seductress had led him to her secret den, and she intended to hold him captive until he was addicted to her—body and soul.

That job for Mika, however, was already accomplished.

The result was that Tom loved being in her room, and he would with or without her.

Because every inch was so her.

He didn’t tend to be a fantasist, but Mika also had that quality. Making her surroundings adventures, interesting ones you wanted to experience to their fullest.

His home looked and felt like a hotel. A nice one, but although he was managing to inject some personality into it the longer he lived there, it still had that clinical feel that said, “You’re welcome here, but stay tidy, and then you must go.”

There were times he thought he’d overstayed his welcome, and he lived there.

And when the kids were growing up, their home felt much the same way. Genny and Tom were too busy to think about it, so they hired a designer who gave them a Malibu Family Beach House Where Rich and Famous People Live! They had a housekeeper that kept it neat, so Tom wasn’t sure he’d ever stepped on one of their toys.

He didn’t hate it. He liked the sun and the beach, his children and wife made any space home, and Genny loved it.

Was it anything close to this?

Not by a long shot.

Tom found this wasn’t a fantasy, even if it was fantastical.

It was a dream.

He heard the door close and came back to the room.

As such, he saw the look on Mika’s face, and he knew Moon was now on the other side of the door for a reason.

He started to get hard.

“What if Cadence is awake?” he murmured as she put a knee to the bed by his hip.

“She isn’t, but if she is”—she pulled the covers down—“you need to be quiet.”

He did?

It was Mika who was abandoned in making—

The thought exited his head as his pajama bottoms were tugged down his hips.

He smiled.

She cleared the material from his feet.

He opened his legs for her.

She positioned between them.

He bent his knees and put his hands behind his head.
