He flips me onto my back, and I squeal at the ease with which he moves me. Feeling a little cheeky, I wink at him. “Hi,” I say innocently, batting my eyelashes. He looks at me affectionately and moves my hair to the side of my face.

“You’re so beautiful,” he whispers before his mouth touches mine. I open my mouth and moan when his tongue slides against mine. He pushes my knees apart, and I open them further, wrapping them around his waist. When he begins grinding against my clit, I moan into his mouth. He then moves down my neck, licking each spot.

“Owen. Please.” He grunts and sucks on my neck before his hands palm my boobs.

“I got you beautiful.” His kiss is so sweet. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him into me. I am still wiggling underneath him when...

“Sweet boy, I brought you breakfast…oh my…I’m sorry.” Was that his mom?

“Oh God, Owen. Was that your mom?” I am now freaking out.

“Baby, calm down. Yes, it was my mom.” Holy hell!

“Oh, Shoot. I am going to go out the backdoor, okay?” He puts both of his hands on the sides of my face and looks me in the eye. I can tell by the look in his eyes he is pissed.

“You are not going out of the backdoor, June. I am not hiding you. Just put on my shirt and a pair of my sweats and come out here with me.” I try to nod my head and look like I am agreeing but I am a terrible liar. “Screw it.” He pulls me up out of the bed and pulls one of his shirts down over my head, grabs a pair of his pants, and puts them on me. “Don’t run, June. Just relax. Promise me.” I can see how much it means to him, so I nod my head because I can’t speak right now. He nods, grabs my hand, and we walk into the kitchen.

“There you two are.” I try to find something else to look at other than her, so I focus on this spread she has right now. She has a table full of croissants, crullers, and pancakes. Bacon and eggs. My stomach is clearly growling, but I don’t think I can eat right now. My body tenses and Owen squeezes my hand.

“Mom, you remember June, right?” His mom smiles and walks over to her with her hand out.

“I sure do. It is a pleasure to see you again sweet girl. I must say I am sorry for barging in.” I begin shaking my head because this is not her fault.

“No. It’s not your…”

“Nonsense. Owen is a grown man, and it is high time I stop using this key he gave me.” She places it on the counter in a gesture, but it doesn’t matter; I am still uncomfortable. “My daughter talks about you often.” I love Owen's sister Olivia. We run into one another sometimes, and she works a shift at the hardware store or sometimes at the ice cream shop.

“I like her too.” Owen is beaming at me. His mom is beaming at me, and I want to be anywhere but here. I know I promised him I wouldn’t run, but I am pretty sure I lied.

CHAPTER

EIGHT

OWEN

I know my girl well enough to know that she’s freaking the fuck out. Too bad I’m not going to give her too much of a chance to.

I’m at the hardware store helping Mr. Johnson with his purchase when Olivia breezes in.

“Have a nice day, Mr. Johnson,” I say.

“You too son. Miss Olivia, when are you going to give my grandson the time of day?”

“Well, Mr. Johnson, just as soon as little Jimmy gets out of diapers we can talk again. I promise,” she says, giggling and patting his forearm. Mr. Johnson chuckles.

“Now, don’t go teasing me, Oliva. You know darn well that I meant my other grandson, Tommy. You know he’s got a tender heart for you.”

“I do know, Mr. Johnson, but it’s hard to go out with a fella who won’t ask me out, isn’t it?” Tommy Johnson and Olivia have been going round and round since elementary school. I don’t know why he doesn’t ask her out. Neither seems to be able to move on or move to each other. It’s weird.

“I’m going to kick that boy’s ass. He’s going to lose you.”

“He won’t actually,” Olivia says quietly.

“That’s not right either.” He pats her arm affectionately, this time before leaving the store.

“Now. You. Brother dear. Mama said you and June were caught in bed this morning. How in the hell did that happen?”

“Sweet Jesus, Mom has a big mouth.” I shake my head. I knew she was going to tell someone; I just didn’t think it would be my little sister.
