“I’d rather you show me than tell me.” The words that come out of my mouth are not the wife of a man she lost her virginity to, a now single mother doing everything on her own, leaving little to no time for herself. Tonight, though, I’m being Rosaleigh, a woman who wants the man in front of her more, to feel the sensation that only Nix elicits. And when he groans deep in his chest, head dipping down, I know I’m about to experience a moment with Phoenix Drakos that I’ve been dreaming about for what seems like eternity.

NIX

“Fuck it,” I mutter. I dip my head, lips grazing the softest set of lips I could ever dream of, finally feeling them, tongue snaking out to lick at the plushness. Taste the sweet undercurrents of the crisp wine she’s been drinking. I’m only hoping she’s not going to regret this once it’s over. My hand moves to her hip, knowing that with one movement, the palm of my hand could have her lush skin beneath it. Leigh was worth the wait, worth the turmoil of watching her fall for the wrong guy, even if that guy was once my best friend. I watched the way he manipulated the situation, biding my time even when it put me in the permanent friend zone, a place I never wanted to be. I pull Leigh’s body closer to mine, wishing she were sitting on a barstool, wanting her to cushion my body as I deepen the kiss.

“Nix.” The soft purr that carries from the back of her throat into mine… Son of a bitch. Too long, too fucking long I’ve waited for Rosaleigh not to be David’s anymore, to be right where I am. I work it so she can’t back away. My hand delves into the loose strands at the base of her neck, combing through the blonde locks, holding her mouth captive to mine as my tongue sweeps inside. Her hands that were by her sides move until they’re gliding from where they were, pressing against my lower abdomen. I’m worried she’s going to push me away, but she does the exact opposite as her fingers clench in the fabric of my black cotton shirt, pulling me closer.

“Jesus, your mouth, sweetheart.” I pull away for a moment, eyes opening, watching what our kiss does to her. The proof is right before me. Rosaleigh has her eyes closed, and she’s breathing heavy much like myself, and the once creamy skin now has a red hue to it.

“You’re one to talk.” She takes a moment to respond. I’m unsure if that’s a good or a bad thing. There’s a part of me that wants to say fuck it, to take Leigh to bed, not worrying about talking or where her head is at. I won’t. There’s too much left unsaid, and there’s a deep-seated need that needs to know she won’t regret this come tomorrow morning.

“Temptation, that’s what you are, Rosaleigh, and as enticing as it is to keep going, I’m thinking we need to clear the air.” I massage the base of her neck. Leigh’s head tips backwards, a moan slides out, and shit, that is not doing anything for my aching cock. At the rate we’ve been going, I’m going to have a calloused palm as well as a permanent zipper imprint on my damn cock.

“So you’ve said a few times about this communication thing.” She is still locked between my body and the counter, neither of us willing to move just yet. I watch as she takes another deep breath, trying to slow down her rapidly beating heart as my thumb slides along her pulse while my other fingers work at the tension that is slowly leaving her neck.

“Yep. You mind pouring the drinks? I’ll grab the tray of food and get the fire pit started so you’re not freezing.” Our eyes are locked. I’m not willing to move an inch just yet, and she seems to be content just the same.

“I don’t mind at all. I need to grab my phone, too, in case one of the girls calls. Not that I really expect them to.” She shrugs her shoulders. There goes that weight of the world again, settling in. Rory and Emmy I get. What a woman like Rosaleigh shouldn’t have to worry about is the incessant worry about working, making enough money to pay the bills, and how she’s going to juggle being a mom at the same time.

“You know as well as I do, they’ll be texting you at some point, even if it’s to say good night. Grab your phone, and a blanket for you, too. I’ll meet you out back.” My lips seek hers, wanting another taste for pure selfish reasons. A niggle of fear is working its way into my system that Leigh may not want to start anything after the turmoil she’s been through.
