Putting it on in the dark wasn’t easy, and I couldn’t see how it looked, but it made me feel sexy. I slid my fingers down the smooth fabric. I loved how it hugged my curves. I wondered if it had reminded Carmine of that one wedding dress I’d tried on.

I couldn’t stop stroking the smooth fabric after I got back under the covers. My thighs clenched and I wished someone was there to stroke my heated flesh. I knew that that was something some girls did for themselves, but I’d never touched myself that way until Carmine had encouraged me to do it in the car, and I felt too self-conscious to try it again now. Especially with Massimo so close by.

But then I still couldn’t sleep. I kept tossing and turning, thinking about the way all three men had touched me. Each of them touched me differently—but they all knew how to make my skin sizzle.

Thoughts like those were not going to help me sleep. In the end, I decided that maybe if I could see how the lingerie looked on me in the bathroom mirror, then I’d be able to sleep. Plus, I could splash some cold water on my face to see if that cooled some of my desires.

Moving quietly, I climbed out of bed. I located the flimsy little robe that went with the lingerie. I couldn’t help smiling in the dark as I tied the belt around my waist. The fabric was just so soft and smooth. It made me realize how ugly the underwear I’d worn before was.

I paused at the entrance to the main room, but there was no movement from Massimo’s bed. Tiptoeing on my bare feet, I walked past his bed.

And shrieked when his hand closed around my wrist.

“Where did you get that?” he growled.

I barely heard him over the pounding of my heart. “You scared me.”

“Who gave you that?” he demanded.

Feeling nervous, I resorted to levity. “The washing machine. It said it missed—”

“Tell me.” His grip on my wrist tightened.

“From Carmine.”

“Have you worn it for him?”

“No.” My voice echoed with surprise. Even if I had, it wouldn’t have violated any of Massimo’s rules.

“Good. Don’t.” He didn’t let me go. “And never bring either of them in this room.”

“Of course I wouldn’t do that.” How could he even think that? It wasn’t one of the rules he’d stated, but it went without saying, as far as I was concerned.

He let me go without comment, and I made my way to the bathroom, feeling stunned. I closed the door completely behind me before turning on the light.

My reflection in the mirror showed off the way the scoop-neck of the lingerie complimented my chest, but I couldn’t relax enough to enjoy the view. Was Massimo beginning to regret the arrangement I had with his brothers? If so, I’d never seen any sign of it before. Except for a few very rare and notable occasions, he still tended to treat me as an afterthought.

I used the toilet, washed my hands, and then did splash water on my face, but not because I was turned on. More to try to kick my brain into a higher gear.

All was quiet when I shut off the light and pulled open the door. I couldn’t see much of Massimo on the bed, just the shape of him.

I padded past him and stopped just before my little room.

The door was closed.

Had I accidentally shut it when I left? But I’d never done that. I’d never closed it, not even once, after Massimo had told me not to.

“You’ll sleep in my bed.”

Massimo’s words weren’t loud, but they seemed to reverberate throughout the room.

“Tonight?”

“Every night.”

My heart pounded in my chest, but what choice did I have? I walked around to the other side and then lifted the covers to climb in. The bed was so huge that there was nearly two feet of space between us. “Um ... good night.”

I pulled the covers up to my chest as I lay on my back, looking up at the ceiling I could barely see. Though I now had significantly more experience with men than I had when I’d arrived at this house, I’d never slept next to one. Was Massimo even wearing any pajama pants? His chest was bare—I’d seen that much when I climbed in.

The mattress shifted, and I didn’t turn my head, but it seemed like Massimo had rolled onto his side and was facing me.

Then the mattress shifted again, and he climbed on top of me. Before I could get a word out, he found my wrists and pinned them against the pillow on either side of my head. He leaned down, pressing his mouth against mine, but it was nothing like the other time he’d kissed me. That had been a teaser. An introduction. This was nothing like that.
