“I’ll have the same,” he tells Kalie, who nods her head and walks away from us. I unbuckle my seat belt, and his eyes open wide. “Are you okay?”

I walk over and sit in the empty seat beside him. “Everything is fine.” I smile up at him. “I just wanted to sit next to you.” I fasten the seat belt and cross my legs. His arm leans over my legs as he bends to kiss my lips.

“You look beautiful,” he compliments me softly me, and my hand comes up to cup his cheek, my fingers feeling the tickle from his scruff.

“You don’t look too bad yourself.” I smile before I lean over and kiss him. The plane takes off, and when we are finally in the air, Kalie brings over our waters, placing them on the table in front of us.

I grab my cup, bringing it to my lips, the bubbly water bursting in my mouth. “What’s going through your mind?” Xavier asks from beside me.

“Is it that obvious?” I reply, not sure how to even start this conversation.

“Pretty much since yesterday,” he says, and I can’t help but laugh.

“And here I was thinking I was doing an amazing job hiding it.” I laugh nervously. The last thing I want is for him to be worried about me.

“It’s just,” I start to say, and I try to find the words without sounding so needy. But knowing I have to be one hundred percent honest with him. “This thing.” My mouth suddenly gets dry, and I have to take another sip of water. “That we’re doing. What is it?” I swallow down the lump as the back of my neck tingles. “Like, it’s fine if it’s a fling.”

“It’s not a fling.” He shakes his head. “Fuck, this is not a fling.” He unbuckles his seat belt. “Let’s go sit on the couch.” He motions with his head toward the couch on the other side of the plane. I get up, walking over to the couch and sitting down. He sits down beside me, putting his arm around me. He lifts my legs so they are draped over his. “Before the plane took off, I was thinking the same thing,” he admits to me, and I feel a lightness leave, and the heaviness start to come over me. “Like, if we do this whole West Coast thing.” I don’t say anything. Instead, I wait for him to continue. “You have a whole life in New York.”

“I do,” I agree. “Do you have a home office?” I ask, and he shakes his head.

“I had a house in Long Island,” he says, and I’m shocked.

“I lived in Long Island for most of my life,” I tell him, and he looks just as shocked.

“Sold the house two years ago.”

“Do you miss it?” I look into his eyes, seeing them get darker as he shakes his head.

“Almost took my life in my master bathroom. I never wanted to go back there again,” he confesses, looking at me. I lay my head on his shoulder, not even thinking how it would be if he wasn’t here. Just the thought makes me want to vomit. “But to answer your question.” I look up at him. “It’s more than a fling.”

I can’t help the smile that fills my face. “Are you saying I’m your girlfriend?” He just rolls his eyes and I throw my head back and laugh.

“That sound,” he says when I stop laughing, “your laughter is the second-best sound I’ve ever heard.”

“What’s the first?” I ask him, and he looks around to make sure we are alone.

Leaning into me, he whispers in my ear, “When you moan out my name right before you come.” Just the way he says it makes my whole body go hot. I don’t even think before I move to straddle his lap. He makes sure that my dress is covering my ass. I shrug off my jacket to make sure I’m covered also.

I lean into his chest. “Xavier,” I say his name in a whisper. “Unbuckle your pants.”

“Fuck no.” He shakes his head. “There is no way I’m letting anyone see you like that.” He grabs my face and slides his tongue into my mouth. “It’s for me and only me.”

“Ugh, you are so getting laid when we get in the hotel room,” I promise, not moving from his lap. He wraps his arms around me as I lay my head on his shoulder for as long as he lets me. Kalie comes and asks us if we would like to eat, and I finally get off him.

She only brings out some things to snack on since we are getting into Vegas at dinnertime. We spend the flight playing cards, and when we land, he carries my bag off the plane for me. The black Escalade is there to greet us. “Welcome to Vegas, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery,” the man welcomes us as he opens the back door. I step in first, ignoring the fact that neither of us corrected him.
