“That’s not true,” I huff and glare at her right after. “Fine, my relationships don’t last long, but that’s not my fault. The last time I brought a guy with me on Sunday”—I put my hands on my hips—“Matthew came and cornered me in the kitchen and had his credit score.” Max just nods his head in agreement, like it’s a normal thing. “We didn’t even have a drink in our hands. It was ten minutes after we got here.”

“Got to love the internet,” Allison says.

“By the way,” Max cuts in. “There was a break-in around the block from your house last week. Are you locking your doors?”

“How do you know that?” I ask him, and he laughs.

“I have a Google Alert for your area, so I get informed of all the things,” he states proudly.

“I think I’m going to get something to drink.” I shake my head. “Thanks for looking out for me, Max.” I get on my tippy-toes and kiss his cheek. I walk into the kitchen, and people are scattered everywhere.

“I have been calling you for the past ten minutes,” Alex huffs when she sees me. The two of us became best friends when Jillian got pregnant, and besides Jillian, she knows me the best. “Where is your phone?” I touch my back pocket, feeling it empty.

“Shit, it’s in my purse. Let me go get it.” I turn and walk out of the kitchen toward the front door, where I dropped my bag. I’m leaned over unzipping my purse when the front door opens. I look up and see Chase walk in.

“Hey,” he greets, smiling at me. I can smell his aftershave, which makes my stomach flutter the same as it always has.

“Hey,” I reply, standing up as he walks to me and puts his hand on my hip while he bends to kiss my cheek. “You smell good,” I compliment, and he just smirks at me. His hair is pulled back away from his face, tucked behind his ears. He is wearing blue jeans that fit him in all the right places with a white shirt that shows off his golden tan. He’s wearing beaded bracelets on his left wrist next to his stainless-steel Rolex.

“You look good,” he says as we walk in. Every single time I see him, I’m reminded of how hot he is. Then I have to remind myself that even though he is hot, sleeping with him is not an option, ever.

“I always look good.” When I look up at him, his blue eyes light up, and I can’t help but smirk. “You just never seem to notice.” I tap him on his nose.

CHAPTER 4

Chase

“I always look good.” She looks up at me, and I can’t help but smile when I see the lightness in her blue eyes. Her smirk says it all. “You just never seem to notice.” She taps her finger on my nose, and her eyes show she is full of mischief.

I can’t help but throw my head back and laugh out loud. “Oh, trust me.” I stop walking and so does she as we stand in the middle of the foyer area. “I notice.”

She rolls her eyes at me. “Oh, please, save it for someone else.” She slaps my stomach, and I watch as she walks away. Fuck, she’s got a body you could worship, and trust me, I’ve seen her in enough barely there bikinis to know what type of body she has. Legs that would wrap very nicely around my hips or my neck. I shake my head to take that picture out. She’s so goddamn beautiful she takes my breath away. I also know she’s the most untouchable human who walks the planet. Not only is she considered family but I’m sure my uncle Max will put me through the wall if I hurt her. My father might even chip in.

“What the hell are you doing here lingering like a creep?” Cooper prods, coming in the front door holding baby Leo in his arms, followed by Mia and Emma.

“Uncle Chase,” Emma says, and I hold my hands for her to jump into my arms and toss her in the air. The sounds of her squealing now fill the huge room.

“You’re so strong,” Mia praises while I blow kisses in Emma’s neck, putting her down on her feet beside Mia. “Daddy hurt his back doing that, so we can’t do it anymore.” She looks at her father. “Even this morning, he came down the stairs bent over.”

“I did not.” Cooper gasps, and Erika just snickers behind him as she walks, holding their daughter Felicia’s hand. “I got kicked in the junk by your sister,” he informs her, and she just rolls her eyes at him and turns to skip away to see the rest of the kids.
