Yeah, football players had groupies too.
I’d never once had to work for a woman. I’d put in zero effort. They literally fell into my lap.
But none of them had looked like her. My Angel. Kirsten.
It wasn’t just her outward beauty either. She fucking radiated inner beauty too. I pulled the pillow over my face with a groan.
Who the fuck are you, man? Get a grip.
I reached down and grabbed my dick. That’s the only kind of grip that would help me now. And I knew without a doubt that it wouldn’t satisfy me.
I grabbed my phone and pulled up the text I’d sent myself from her phone. I tapped out a note and hit send.
Hi, Angel.
How are you?
What time does your shift start?
I waited for her to write back. She didn’t. I stared at my phone, feeling like a chick. I cursed and decided to get cleaned up and get some food. Then I’d be ready for tonight, whatever came.
Hopefully I’d see my Angel tonight. Get to kiss her again.
I turned the water on ice cold and stood under it, willing my dick to cool down. I hadn’t had a hard on for no reason since fucking junior high. But now, just thinking about her got me hard.
The girl was a bonafide spank machine.
I got dressed and picked up my phone. Then I cursed. She had written back. But only to tell me to stay away. For my own good, of course.
See? She was nice. She wanted me to stay away from the big bad mobsters.
Well, like hell I would. She was just going to have to get used to me looking out for her. I stared at my phone before tapping out a response.
Not going to happen, sweetheart. See you tonight.
“What’s wrong with him?”
I glared at Whiskey as I shoveled more spaghetti into my mouth. I’d had take out from Mae’s delivered to the clubhouse bar. Mac was behind the bar as usual. I’d told him not to let me drink, but right now I was regretting it.
My phone lit up again.
I was going back and forth with Kirsten. She was mad at me. I didn’t care.
I was not going to stay away no matter what she said.
If you sit at my table and win again, you will cause problems for me.
I stared at my phone.
What kind of problems?
I waited for her response. I didn’t have to wait long.
They will hurt me.
Fuck. Okay, well that might get me to stay away. Unless…
So I’ll lose.
Lucky, please. Don’t come. I don’t want you to get hurt.
She didn’t want to see me get hurt. I liked that. I actually smiled a little. She did care about me. Maybe she wasn’t fucking obsessed like I was, but she liked me. More than a little, I thought.
I’ll sit at a different table. I just want to be near you.
Silence. No response to that. Fuck.
“Who is he texting?”
Callaway took the seat on the other side of me, stealing a piece of garlic bread. I glared at him, too.
“A girl.”
Mac gave a rare smile. Whiskey and Callaway looked at each other and burst into laughter. Drake was barbacking tonight. He snickered at me too.
“A girl? No shit!”
Mac nodded, filling them in. My mouth was full of food or I would have told him to shut the fuck up.
“He met her last night. He was so drunk, I told him she probably looks like Jack in broad daylight.”
Jack perked up from further down the bar as I practically leapt over the table to grab Mac.
“She’s a fucking angel! You take that back!”
He was laughing in my face as the guys pulled me off the bar. I stared down at my spaghetti. I’d smushed it. Fuck.
“Jesus, Lucky. Settle down. Tell us about her.”
“She’s a dealer.”
Callaway’s eyebrows shot up.
“Drugs?”
“No, cards, you jackass. At the Garage.”
“Those girls are all strippers or grandmas.”
“Not her. She’s perfect. She even gave me a ride home after she ran me over.”
“She hit you with her car? What the fuck, man? I told you not to walk!”
I ate another bite of my flattened spaghetti.
“My fault. Not hers.”
“Did anyone get a look at this paragon?”
“Not paragon. Angel.”
Jack ambled down the bar.
“Who looks like me?” the giant rumbled.
“Lucky’s new girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?”
“Not girlfriend.” I took another bite, talking with my mouth full. “She’s wifey material.”
“Holy fuck, did hell just freeze over?”
“When do we get to meet her?”
“Dunno.” I shook my head. “She won’t go out with me.”
“Seriously? When has a woman ever turned you down?”
“Never.” I smirked. “Not until last night.”
“So how did you get her number?”
“I texted myself from her phone.”
They burst into laughter. I didn’t join in.
“She likes me. But she can’t.”
“Why? She married? That’s bad juju, even for you, Lucky.”
“No. She’s in trouble. The Margarellis have something on her.”
Now they all exchanged looks.
“You don’t want to fuck with them, Lucky.”
