I nod and kiss him back, because for once, I’m not alone.

And for once, I don’t want to be.

“What now?” I sip my coffee as Lucius, shirtless and with his pajama pants slung low, tries to make breakfast.

“Now, food.” He cracks an egg into the pan, but some bits of eggshell make it in. He opens the trash can to dump the whole thing, but the egg is stuck to the pan.

“Shit.” He jiggles it, trying to get it to come off, but it doesn’t. I grin behind my coffee cup. He tosses the pan into the sink and grabs another from beneath the stove.

“I take it you don’t cook much?” I stand and walk over to him. I’m wearing one of his button-up shirts with nothing underneath.

“I can cook.” He stares at the stove as if he’s trying to remember test answers. “I’ve made macaroni and cheese plenty of times, not to mention peanut butter and jellies.”

“Impressive.”

He gives me a sideways glance. “Your sarcasm is noted and ignored.”

“Sit down.” I point with the spatula.

“What? You know how to cook? I thought you were career woman extraordinaire, out to tear apart businesses and put them back together.”

I walk to the fridge and look inside. Neat, orderly, barely touched. Grabbing some butter, I return to the stove and take the fresh pan, put in a pat, and turn the flame to medium.

He comes up behind me and puts his hands on my hips beneath the long shirt.

“Watch and learn.” Once the butter is melted, I crack an egg one-handed.

“Amazing.” He moves my hair to the side and kisses the back of my neck. “Show me more.”

I crack another egg, then salt and pepper them.

Lucius pulls the collar of his shirt to the side and kisses along my shoulder. His touch, the simple press of his lips against my skin, sends heat rushing across my skin.

“Over medium.” He nibbles my ear. “Please.”

When he sinks to his knees behind me, I try to turn. He stops me and then kisses up the backs of my thighs.

I make a strangled sound when he spreads my legs. “Lucius, I don’t think—” I gasp when he licks me from the back.

“Shh, I’m having breakfast.” He spreads my cheeks and licks me from front to back, his tongue going places no man has touched. I lean over the stove, the eggs sizzling lightly as Lucius presses two fingers inside me.

“Mmm, you’re still wet. Good girl.” He licks my asshole, focusing on the sensitive skin.

I moan and try to watch the eggs, but when he moves his slick fingers to my clit, I throw my head back. “Lucius!”

He sucks my skin, his mouth hot and wet on my ass as his fingers strum my clit.

I’m shaking, my entire body focused on his mouth, his fingers, him.

“I’m no cook, but perhaps you should flip them?” His voice is muffled, and he lifts one of my legs all the way up until my foot is on the countertop. “Oh, yes, darling,” he practically purrs. “I like this view quite a lot.”

I flip the eggs. Barely.

He strokes me faster, both fingers giving me the friction I need. His tongue at the back is sending me higher and higher. The toaster pops up right as I come on a whine, my thighs shaking as my hips lock. He doesn’t stop, and I can feel him groan against my hot skin.

When my orgasm finally subsides, I pull my foot from the counter.

He tries to push it back.

“The eggs.”

“Fuck the eggs.” He kisses my cheeks, then bites my ass.

“You’re the devil!” I turn off the stove.

He rises and goes to the sink, cleaning up and then grabbing two plates and the toast. I add the eggs, and he takes my hand and pulls me over to the counter.

“These look amazing, though I’ve already seen the most delicious sight this morning.” He takes a bite of his toast.

“I don’t even know what to say.” I don’t. I’m actually embarrassed about how much I liked what he just did.

“I ate your ass and now I’m eating your eggs.” He motions toward my plate. “They’re very good. Thank you.”

I shake my head and take a bite. He’s right. My eggs are perfect.

“This is surreal.” I drink my coffee slowly.

“What? Good eggs?”

“Us.”

“Already doubting?” he teases.

“Not doubting, just adjusting, I guess. I never imagined any of this. I mean, if I’m being honest, this is so far outside of my realm of possibilities that it’s almost laughable.”

“I’ll make you a believer, Evie.”

“I already believe. In you.” I lean over and kiss his cheek.

“Good.” He picks up my toast and feeds it to me. “Eat. I need you full of energy for my next venture inside you.”

“I have work to do. Not to mention, we need to talk about last night. They aren’t going to go away just because Beau’s dead. They’ll find someone else to try and resurrect the entire machine.”
