With a push, I release her, and she rocks back into her chair.

“Out,” I say quietly.

The entire restaurant stops. Each person rises, and everyone files out the front door as Evie watches, her eyes huge. Even the wait staff and the kitchen workers leave.

She looks around, eyes wide and confused, then slowly returns her gaze to the only other person here.

“Would you like to scream some more? I quite enjoyed it.” I take my fork and knife and begin cutting into my rare filet as if nothing is amiss.

“You fucking bastard. You set all this up. Every bit of it.”

I can’t tell if she’s in fear or awe. Maybe some of both.

“Did it turn you on when I pulled your hair?” I take a bite of steak, the meatiness melting on my tongue.

“Did it turn you on when I shot you in your black heart?” she fires back.

I smirk. “Actually—” I fork a piece of filet and offer it to her.

She ignores it.

“Actually, yes, Evie. It did.” I eat the piece she wouldn’t touch. “Now, tell me. Did you choose to wear that virginal little sundress so you could seduce a member of the board?” I glance down at her hard nipples as they press against the fabric. Fuck, I could cut my tongue on those, and I sure as hell want to try and find out. “Did you want him to take you to the bathroom, yank down those panties and fuck you against the wall?” I chew slowly as she glares at me.

“What makes you think I wore panties?”

I stop chewing. My mouth waters, but not for steak.

She smirks right back at me. “Like I said. It doesn’t matter if you know who I am. I’m going to take what’s yours, and once I have it, I’m going to tear it apart.”

“All because I stabbed Red in the heart with a smile on my face?”

She tenses, her gaze darting to the steak knife on her side of the table.

“Do it.” I put my knife down and gesture toward hers. “I want to see if you can.”

“You want to see if I can kill you?” She takes the knife in her palm. “I already did it once. What makes you think I can’t do it again?”

“Come and get me, little Evie.” I spread my arms wide, and I don’t miss the way she takes in my broad chest, the way her gaze follows my throat all the way to my lips, and then up to my eyes. She wants me. That little hair-pulling incident was just a tease. Soon enough, I’ll be deep inside her, hurting her while she comes on my cock.

“It was kind of you to get rid of all the witnesses.” She stands, her body lithe, as if she knows just what to do with the knife in her palm.

“Anything for you, little Evie.” I raise my glass to her and down the rest of my whisky.

As I do, she lunges, the knife aimed right for my chest.

Evie

All my force goes into burying the knife into Lucius. I want him to hurt the way I hurt when I think about what he did to Red. I want him to feel the same agony as the knife cuts through his life, slices open his heart, and leaves him to bleed out.

I’m almost there when he grabs my wrist. Whipping me away from him, he comes up behind me and grabs me with his other arm. With a roughness that jars through me, loosening all the parts that I’ve kept tightly wrapped over the last five years, he slams me onto the nearest table face down.

He leans over me, his body hard and heavy, forcing me down. And then I feel his length pressing against my ass.

I whimper. I shouldn’t have, because he runs his teeth along my ear.

“Was that an invitation?” He moves his hips against me, showing me just how thick and hard he is.

“You’re a fucking monster.”

“You’re the one who keeps trying to commit murder. How am I the bad guy in this scenario?” He grabs my hair and pulls it so my cheek is flat against the table. “I hate that you dyed your hair. Red suits you. And those contacts—I remember your big brown eyes. The way you used to look at me.”

“Like I hated you?”

“Like you wanted to be underneath me. The way you are right now.” His warm breath on my neck sends goose bumps racing across my skin.

“I was a foolish little girl.”

“And now you’re a foolish woman.” He kicks my ankles, knocking my legs apart and pressing his cock against my hot core. “Bent over a table and about to be fucked by the man you hate the most.”

“Get off me.” I buck.

He laughs in my ear. “Are you sure that’s what you want?”
