Just hurry up already. His hand itched to reach for his gun, but the accomplice guarding the door kept him from blowing this guy’s head off without casualties. Normally, he wouldn’t care, but he still wanted to keep his visit to Blue Park somewhat of a secret.

As the robber tried to grab the cash out of the register as fast as he could, unfortunately, the cashier’s oblivious son entered from a side room.

“Dad, I’m done. You—”

The now stunned robber turned his attention to the kid, ready to pull the trigger.

Somehow, Dominic closed the distance and pointed his own gun right in his face. “Put the gun down.” Dom’s cold voice cut even over the sound of a shot ringing out.

Unfortunately for Lucca, the accomplice had missed, striking the Luciano, who didn’t even flinch, in the upper arm.

The next shot that rang out was from Dominic’s gun as he splattered the robber’s brains all over the store.

The accomplice finally realized who he had shot as Dom focused his sole attention on him. Then he realized just how fucking dumb he was when his eyes caught Lucca. Of all the gas stations to rob, it was clear he had picked the wrong one at the wrong time.

Now this is getting interesting.

Smiling to himself when the accomplice bolted, Lucca ran after him, not wanting Dominic to have all the fun.

When it was clear he wasn’t going to be able to catch the Olympic runner, he finally pulled his gun from behind his back, wondering what kind of dumbass would rob a gas station wearing a bright-ass red shirt. The residents of Blue Park were about as bright as their lightbulbs.

“Don’t. He’s mine.”

Before Lucca could sight that ugly red shirt, Dom had caught up to him and pulled the trigger of his own gun.

If he hadn’t watched it himself, he wouldn’t have believed that the Luciano could hit a moving target right in the head in a matter of a second.

Slowly, he turned in disbelief, pinning his eyes on his enemy. “You shot him in the head.”

“Yes, I wanted him dead. I didn’t think you’d be opposed to it.”

Lucca did a double-take. That red shirt lay on the pavement what seemed like half a football field away. “But it only took you one bullet.”

“Lucky shot.” The future Luciano mob boss shrugged. “You could have saved me the bullet if you had caught him.”

Pinning his eyes back, he knew Dom was trying to downplay his clear abilities with the Glock as he returned his behind his own back. “I don’t know a man alive who could have caught that fucker.”

“Maybe.” Dominic smiled. “But you would’ve had a better shot of catching him if you’d put down the cigarettes once in a while.”

Lucca could only let that comment slide, because it was probably true and because the cashier’s kid, who had almost gotten his brains blown out, hurried up to them.

“I called my brothers. They’ll help me clean up the mess up. You go. We’ll take care of them.”

What the—

Even more disbelief flooded him as he watched the red-shirted dead body being lifted into the trunk of a car.

Now that was something he hadn’t seen before on this side of the tracks, or his.

When he heard the sirens, he quickly took out some cash from his wallet to buy the kid’s silence about him being there, as it was clear he had already been trained well.

Lucca didn’t even bother telling Dominic goodbye, knowing what he needed to do next as he jumped into his Cadillac.

Flicking over the engine, he pulled off, but he made sure to not speed up until the enemy was out of sight in his rearview.

It took him a bit to find the car that carried the dead body. He was actually about to give up when he finally spotted it pulling into a parking lot. The big sign that said Money & King Funeral Home told him exactly why it was being brought here.

Damn, Lucca had to fucking dispose of his own bodies. Countless nights he had spent burying bodies in graveyards. Meanwhile, he was pretty certain the residents of Blue Park would pick up the bodies for Dominic, probably to make some quick cash. Turned out they might not have been so dumb after all …

Realizing he was late, Lucca drove off as night began to fall. Heading to the place where they had first met, he parked his car a bit down the road from the park in a rundown cul-de-sac. Certain his car wouldn’t be seen if a Luciano drove by, he got out and started walking.

He heard shouting as he drew closer, and his instincts told him what was going on before he had even entered the sketchy playground.

He cut through the circle of kids to see Cassius sitting on a kid’s chest as he repeatedly punched him in the face. He had seen that look on Cass’s face before, but it had been years ago when they had first met—boredom. This time, it was much more disturbing to see because … how could the kid be bored in the moment? But it wasn’t until a spurt of blood escaped the pinned-down kid’s lip that something flashed across the youngest Luciano’s face.
