“Yeah, but you can’t deny that you’re very animal like—especially when we’re in bed together.”

“You know, I hear we’re going to be staying in the basement apartment tonight. How about we make sure my parents … Dang that feels weird,” he laughs. “Let’s see if they’re good with Tinny for a while and I can show you how animal I can get.”

“Wouldn’t that be weird, I mean …”

“Hell no. It’ll be heaven,” he argues, then picks me up in his arms and walks over toward his parents, still carrying me bridal style. I should be self-conscious or embarrassed. Instead, I’m just grateful.

Chapter 27

Breaker

It has been two weeks since our trip to Kentucky. There haven’t been a lot of things to change in mine and Indy’s day to day life. I’m still getting more of my memories. They’re choppy at best, but I have managed to put the pieces back together and I am feeling more in control. I’ve started therapy, too. I’ve only had two sessions, but I like the way I feel when I walk away from the meetings. It’s something I’ll definitely keep up—at least until my memory is complete. Indy and I have made one other trip to Kentucky. We met Dragon, who is an unofficial uncle and his family. He’s Dom’s dad and the president of our club, too. I met Dom’s brother Thomas. They call him T. I actually did remember him—well, I remembered the way he looked and that he had trouble speaking. Still, it was encouraging. Each memory is like a small piece that slides into place, making me feel more whole.

I think Tinny and Indy both are enjoying our trips to Kentucky. We stayed a couple nights in a house I own there. It was nice, a little outdated, but I could tell I’ve worked hard on it. It’s odd, but I can’t remember the house at all, and you think I would. It fits me, Tinny, and Indy great, but if we ever had more kids, it would never work. Of course, I may be getting ahead of myself. I’d love to move back to Kentucky, but Indy has said her life is in Bryson City and I’m not going to ask her to give that up. I’ll maintain contact with my family like I have been. I will be just fine.

We’re traveling up there next week for Thanksgiving. Indy is nervous about that, but I have no idea why. Everyone loves her and she seems to fit in great. It’s not that she’s said anything either. No, she’s just been quiet. I catch her staring off into the distance and when I ask her what’s on her mind, she changes the subject. I’d let it go, but I can’t because it keeps happening. In fact, she’s doing it right now. That’s almost an insult since we’re lying in bed together and I’ve just given her two orgasms.

“Alright, honey. What is going on in that beautiful mind of yours?” I ask.

“Huh?” she asks, pulling her attention back to me.

“What are you thinking?”

“I’ve been going over everything in my mind and I’ve come to a decision, but it’s a really big one and I’m scared.”

“What kind of decision?” I ask, instantly on alert.

“I know I said my life was here in Bryson City, but the thing is, I haven’t been really happy here. Except for Iva and Cooper, I don’t really have any true connections. I would have moved, but I owed too much on the place to ever come out with enough to buy another place. That wouldn’t really be a concern though if we moved to Kentucky. You have a place there. We’d have a few thousand left over after we sold this house. We could use that to start adding on other bedrooms or updating your kitchen …”

“Indy? Are you saying you want to move to Kentucky?”

“Well, yeah. I mean, it would make the most sense. Your family is there and—”

“Honey, you and Tinny are my family. You come first. You have your business here.”

“There’s an opening for a part-time vet in London. Dom helped get me an interview over the phone. I aced it.”

“I’m going to kill that guy.”

Indy laughs. “Don’t. I appreciated it. I mean, I like owning my own business, but it’s also a lot of work. I could work three days a week for this place and still have lots of time to spend with Tinny and any other kids we have.”

“You want more kids?”

“Don’t you?”

“Fuck, yes,” I growl, making her giggle.

“I kind of figured, since you’ve been so thorough in trying to knock me up. I mean, I’m on birth control but you are like the energizer bunny, you keep going and going …”

“Are you complaining, woman?” I fake growl, leaning over her and wiggling my eyebrows.
