I flash a grin as all the possibilities run amuck through my brain. Even though we’re alone, I tug her close and whisper the answer in her ear. She pulls away just enough to search my eyes as her pupils dilate, the black swallowing up the blue gray.

“I’m pretty sure I can make that happen.”

With that, I lock my hand around hers and hightail it back to the apartment.

For the first time in a week, everything in my life feels like it’s fallen into place, and that has everything to do with the girl at my side.

The one I’ll never allow to get away again.

Chapter Forty

Carina

Ford’s arms are wrapped around me, holding me securely against him as if he’ll never let go. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s been a few weeks since we cleared the air and already, it feels like we’ve been together forever. If I thought we’d get weird looks or comments since we used to be related, that hasn’t been the case. It’s almost as if everyone realized what would happen before we did.

He presses his lips against my neck as I bring the lime seltzer to my mouth and take a swig, draining the can. The Wildcats won another game tonight and the entire campus turned up to celebrate.

Slap Shotz is packed to the gills. It’s standing room only. Which means that karaoke is well under way. People are on stage belting their little hearts out. Some are terrible. And they know it. They make a joke out of it. But a few are seriously impressive. When they sing, the bar falls so silent that you could hear a pin drop.

Juliette catches my attention from the other side of the table, mouthing the word ‘bathroom.’ I give her a nod before turning to Ford.

“I’m going to the restroom and then I’ll stop at the bar and pick up another round.”

His grip tightens. “Don’t be gone long or I’ll be forced to come find you.”

A shiver dances down my spine as a smile twitches around the corners of my lips. “Are you actually trying to threaten me with a good time?”

He snorts. “Always, pretty girl.”

When I rise to my feet, he tugs on my fingers. The movement sends me tumbling back down to his lap. His lips collide with mine, his tongue licking along the seam of my lips before invading my mouth. Just as I lose myself in the caress, there’s a tap on my shoulder.

I tear myself away, only to find Juliette standing next to us with a smirk.

“Are you ready?”

I nod as my tongue darts out to taste Ford on my lips. His gaze drops to the movement and his honey-colored eyes darken with intensity. Already I know what will happen once we reach my apartment.

And I’m totally down for it.

Juliette’s gaze slides to my newly minted boyfriend who continues to lounge on the chair, eyes pinned to mine. “Maybe you two could spend the night at your place every once in a while. I’d actually like to enjoy a little sleep for a change. You two are still loud AF.”

I smack her arm as a wide grin spreads across his face. It’s as if the man takes pride in being able to make me scream my head off.

What am I saying?

Of course he does.

Especially now that he’s been able to last longer than a dozen or so strokes. Sometimes he’ll make me come twice before finally losing control and tumbling over the edge with me.

Juliette loops her arm through mine as we navigate the thick crowd to the bathroom. There’s a little bit of a line. We chat, talking about what the next month or so will bring along with exams and Christmas, which is right around the corner.

This year is flying by.

Before we know it, graduation will be looming on the horizon.

Once we finish up in the bathroom, we make our way to the bar and order another round of drinks. As I pay the bartender, someone squeezes my arm. I turn and find Fallyn along with her friend, Britt. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them. The four of us exchange hugs and chat as we catch up.

“Last song of the evening,” Sully says from the other side of the bar.

I’m about to turn back to the conversation when Wolf rises from his chair and saunters up to the stage.

I glance at Juliette and raise my brows. “Have you ever seen him get up there?”

She shakes her head, looking just as surprised by the turn of events. The other two girls are equally quiet as the four of us watch him choose a song before picking up the microphone. His gaze slowly combs over the sea of people as if searching for someone specific.

But who?

To my knowledge, he’s never had a girlfriend. Not that the puck bunnies aren’t constantly throwing themselves at him. It’s like the more he holds them at a distance, the more they clamor for his attention.
