“They’re probably already here. Let’s give them a show.” Kim grabs my hand, leading me onto the dance floor. I barely sway my hips twice when an arm wraps around me. I don’t have to look to know it’s Max. I push back into him, letting my head fall back onto his chest.

“You’re going to pay for this dress.”

I turn in his arms wrapping my hands around his neck as he moves to the music with me. “I’m looking forward to it.”

“Everyone is staring at you.” Max looks all around. I roll my eyes. He always thinks men are looking at me. That they want to snatch me away from him. I think he forgets he’s the one that women are always after. He says I don’t notice, which makes it easier for them to get close to me; where he knows when someone is trying to get to close to him and he’ll tell them to fuck off. I fight a laugh because while it’s rude it does make me laugh. It doesn't matter. Neither of us want anyone else. I know Max only wants me. I’m unbothered by other women.

We dance a few more songs before Max tells his sister we are leaving. “Your feet are hurting,” he says as he leads me out of the club. He is right. He opens the limo door for me. I climb in. He follows in after me. I start to kiss him, thinking I know where this is going. He kisses me back for a moment before sitting me in the other seat off of his lap.

“Hey, what are you-” I stop protesting when he pulls the heels off my feet. I let out a moan as he starts to rub my feet.

“You really are going to be the perfect husband.” I sigh.

“Don’t fall asleep on me,” he says as he keeps on rubbing my feet.

“I’m sure that mouth of yours will wake me up.” I let my eyes fall closed. I don’t have a worry in the world. Our wedding is days away but I know everything will go off without a hitch. If it doesn’t, I really don't care. All I care about at the end of the day is that Max Kennedy will be my husband and I know nothing will stop that from happening.

“You can count on that.” I can always count on him. In more ways than one.

Epilogue 2

Max

Years later

I yawn, leaning back in my chair at the office. I try to come in at least once a week to check on things. The place runs itself but it’s nice to keep people on their toes. That and one day one of our kids might want to take over. I am leaving all doors open for them. If they want the place and prove they can handle it, I’ll hand it over. If they want no part then I can sell it off. Either way there is no rush or need to do anything at the moment. I glance at the clock seeing I still have over an hour before we can pick our son up at kindergarten. Mia spent the day with my mom and Kim at some spa where they planned a handful of treatments and afternoon tea. They are having a girls’ day, taking our daughter with them. I think Mom did it to help Mia not worry over Cooper’s first day of school.

I knew he’d be fine. He has a lot of his mom in him. He is a social butterfly and can talk to anyone. I’m sure he’s already made friends with everyone in his class. Still, I am ready to go home. Mia said she’d meet me here and we’d go together to pick Cooper up from his first day. I am ready to get out of this office. The downside to only coming in once a week is when you’re here someone is always needing something. Mark has been all over me from the moment I stepped into the office. I have a feeling he might be doing the same thing my mom is doing with Mia. Keeping me busy so that my mind doesn't drift to the kids getting older and I turn into a cranky asshole. He is doing it for the good of the office.

My office phone rings. I sigh because it shouldn't be ringing. My family or the school would call my cell phone if they needed anything, so it has to be work related. Mark sent the call through, so it must be important. I reluctantly pick it up.

“Maxwell Kennedy,” I answer.

“Mr. Kennedy. My name is Mia Montgomery and I’m calling from Remex Collection Services.”

“Say your maiden name again, angel, and I’ll spank your ass tonight after we put the kids to bed.” I smile, sitting up in my chair. My cock goes hard thinking about all those years ago. The first time I’d heard her sweet voice. Who fucking knew this is where I’d end up? Life can really change in the blink of an eye—or I guess in our case a simple phone call.
