She had to hope these assholes didn’t know about that exit.

Dare’s hand was suddenly in hers. “We’re going to talk about this later. You think your ass hurts now…”

She would handle it. If they survived this, she would give him far bigger reasons to spank her. She would take every smack of his hand if he could forgive her. “Come on, Sir. The best thing we can do for everyone here is to get you out.”

She crept along the wall, her eyes starting to adjust to the darkness. Not all the lights had gone off. There were neon fixtures parsed around the place, and they seemed to be on a separate grid or likely had to be turned off at the source. The lights twisted the smoke into wispy tendrils of neon light.

In the distance she could hear whispers. Masculine voices were speaking, but she couldn’t make out what they were saying. English. She was sure they were speaking English, but she couldn’t hear enough to make out an accent.

It didn’t matter. Lou and Tristan would make sure they caught these guys on a CCTV. There might not be one in the actual club, but there were plenty in this part of the city. Lou would find them and figure out who they were and who’d hired them. All she had to do was get Dare away from here, and her team would handle the rest.

Of course then the real fight would begin because she had to tell him. She couldn’t tell him she loved him too until he knew who she was. It would be okay. They were connected, and he would believe her.

It would be okay. It was all going to be okay.

A dark figure moved across the floor in front of the hallway that led to the stairs. She caught sight of the man in the blinking neon lights and squeezed Dare’s hand, stopping their motion. She didn’t breathe, her heart pounding in her chest as the figure turned down the hall she’d been planning on using, the shadow of a big gun in his hands.

They couldn’t go that way.

She wished she had her gun or her knives. She rarely used them in the field, but she practiced with them often, and she would feel so much more in control if she had them.

Dare tugged her hand, and she could see him pointing forward.

They moved behind the smaller stage, trying to stay low. From there they could make their way to the only place she knew would be reenforced. They could make their way to the viewing room where Lou would be.

It wasn’t how she wanted him to find out. She needed to get him in bed and gently tell him. He needed to be able to feel her arms around him when she explained who she really was.

“Stand down, whoever the fuck you are.” A familiar voice came booming over an intercom system. Normally it played industrial music on a low volume, but it seemed Zach had pumped that sucker up.

He was in the control room. Lou would be there, too. It meant Kala and Cooper would be moving around the floor, ready to take out the enemy. Tristan would be with them or guarding Brian, while Nate would have one job—looking for Tasha and Dare.

“Stay close.” She started to move toward one of the smaller stages, sticking to the shadows.

“I don’t know who you are, but you’ve stepped in it,” Zach declared.

She knew what he was doing. He was attempting to manipulate whoever was in the club to get upset and make an angry move. He was also trying to buy time for the team to take them out.

“You are the dumb motherfuckers who’ve managed to bite off more than you can chew,” Zach continued.

She heard a snort to her left and followed her instincts. She kicked out, catching whoever was moving in the leg and throwing him or her off balance. In the low light she saw a man in all black, stumbling, trying not to hit the floor. He held an M4A1 assault rifle in his hands, but those were unsteady, too.

Her eyes had adjusted, and now it was easy for her to sweep her leg out again, catching the guy’s ankles and sending him crashing to the floor. But not before she grabbed that sweet rifle.

“Hey, lady,” the guy began.

She brought the butt down on his head. The guy slumped to the floor.

“Tasha, what did you do?” Dare asked, standing right behind her. “Who is that?”

She didn’t care. Now they had a shot at getting out of here. She gripped the rifle, happy for the familiar weight in her hands. “Let’s go find Nate.”

“Or you can stay right there. I’ve got you, bitch,” a deep voice said. “Drop that gun and I might forget that you hurt one of my team members.”
