“There is that word again.”

Lifting my head to glance at him, I asked, “What word? Swoon?”

The rumble in his chest vibrated through my body. “Yes.”

“That’s the romance writer in me. My readers expect to swoon because of the heroes I write. So, keep it up, cowboy. You’re giving me good material.”

He wrapped his arms around me tighter. “Is that so? Now I’m going to have to up my game if I’m going to be your next hero in one of your books.”

I laughed. “Up your game? Wade, how could you possibly up your game?”

Wade turned me around. I wrapped my legs around him, and we sat face to face.

“Oh, I can up my game, darlin’.”

Lifting my brows, a slow, evil smile spread across my face.

Oh, I’m going to reap the benefits from this little game.

“Really? Then I suggest you show me what else you’ve got.”

His dimples appeared, and my stomach dipped.

Placing his finger on my chin, he drew my lips to his. “I think I’m going to like this game we’re playing.”

I wiggled my eyebrows. “So do I.”

The hot sun beat down as we gave the last goats their vaccinations. Lifting my hat, I wiped the sweat from my forehead. “Christ Almighty, it’s hot.”

Trevor and Steed laughed. “Welcome to Texas.”

I shook my head at Trevor. “I went to college here for four years, or did you forget?”

He paused and then shook his head. “Damn. I did forget for a second.”

Steed slapped his brother on the back. “I’ve missed the heat. I’m looking forward to a hot summer.”

“I bet your wife isn’t saying that,” I said with a smirk.

With a shake of his head, he grunted. “No. She’s not.”

“When is she due?” I asked, grabbing my water and drinking it all in one gulp.

“July thirtieth.”

Trevor grabbed a water and tossed it to Steed. “Damn. In the middle of the summer. Poor Paxton.”

“I know. Chloe is trying to convince me we need to build a pool. I had to remind her that her grandparents have a pool. She countered by saying her poor mommy was going to be so big with her baby brother that she wasn’t gonna wanna get in the car and drive to Granddaddy and Grammy’s house. She’s gonna wanna walk out the back door and there it is. Problem is, Paxton agrees with her.”

Trevor and I exchanged glances before looking back at Steed. “You are in trouble with that little girl. I hope you know that.”

He swallowed his water. “Don’t I know.”

“What do y’all say about heading out tonight? Just us guys hanging out and having a good time.” Trevor asked.

“Cord’s?” Steed asked.

Trevor shook his head. “Nah, there’s a new place opened up outside of Bandera. Cord’s wanted to check it out since it opened a couple of months ago. I say we all head there. It would be nice to find some new pussy.”

I shook my head. “I’ll go, but I’m not interested in hooking up with anyone.”

I felt the heat from both of their stares.

“You don’t say. You got a reason why you ain’t interested in hooking up with anyone?”

With a grin, I replied, “I do. A pretty little redhead with the last name of Parker.”

Steed grinned from ear to ear, as did Trevor. He reached over and placed a hand on my shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.

“Waylynn told us at breakfast that Amelia’s been walking around with a goofy smile on her face.”

I returned their grins. “She’s an amazing woman. I’ve never felt this way about someone. Not even Caroline. Not even close.”

Steed nodded. “I’m glad to hear that. Just take care of her heart. I really like you, Wade. You’re good for the ranch, and I would hate to have all five Parker brothers kick your ass if you hurt our sister.”

I laughed. “Trust me, you’ve all made that very clear. Including your dad. Besides, I have no intentions of letting Amelia Parker go anytime soon.”

Trevor slapped the living shit out of my back. “Good. Good. I’m glad to hear that. I’d hate to have to cut your dick off and shove it down your throat and pull it out your ass.”

“Wow. You really went there,” Steed said with a hearty laugh.

Shaking my head, I felt my body tighten. “For fuck’s sake, Trevor. What in the hell is wrong with you?” I asked as we started to get into the ranch truck.

“I’m just saying, Adams. That’s my baby sister. And just so you know, once I find out y’all have slept together, I’m gonna have to kick your ass.”

My eyes widened as I stopped at my door. “What the fuck for? You gave me your permission to date her.”

He shrugged. “It’s the principle. You know. It’s expected of me.”

“By who?”

Trevor pointed over to Steed. “My other brothers.”

I shot my eyes over to Steed. He lifted his brows and frowned. “Yep. Afraid he’s right. It’s expected.”
