I crack up. This is the lightest I’ve felt in weeks. It’s as if my world has fallen right into place.

“You know. It’s a small world. Saga, you left for New York when Fred and I really became tight and Bishop here had already started to travel the world with his music. It’s interesting that you two didn’t meet sooner,” my father muses.

“I think we met right when we should have,” I say, looking up at Bishop.

“I know we did,” Bishop says. “You showed up right when I needed you.”

“You know, I was thinking that very same thing,” I say as I beam at him.

CHAPTER 42

Our Next Chapter

Saga

I haven’t been able to stop smiling since our family left. Tonight turned out better than I hoped. I even made up with my brother—at least, I did after placing him in a headlock.

“You look happy,” Bishop says as he walks up behind me and buries his face into my neck.

Looking at us in the full-length mirror, I smile at the sight we make. Bishop is the total opposite of my type, and yet he’s the perfect man for me. I’d do it all again if I had the chance. Mistakes and all, it was our path.

“I can’t help but feel like my life is perfect. I love my job. This place is starting to feel like home now that you’re here with me. My family is talking to me again. And I have you,” I say.

Bishop locks eyes with me in the mirror. He studies me for a moment. I crease my forehead in curiosity.

“Yet something is missing. I heard it at the end,” he murmurs.

“You know me so well,” I chuckle.

“What is it?”

“All of this business with my dad and family. It has forced me to think about everything in my life. The choices I made before you. The ones that led to New York and my workaholic life.

“I don’t know if I chose my career for me or if that was just one of many things I did to please my father. I’m thinking I want to explore something new. My sister is an entrepreneur. Maybe I should take a page from her book,” I reply.

“What do you plan to do?”

I laugh. “That’s just it. I’m still figuring that out,” I say.

“I’ve learned that it’s never too late to go after your dreams. When you figure it out, we’ll make it happen. For now, we’ll focus on being happy,” he says.

“When do you plan to tell me that you’re retiring? I’m going to need to find a new job when you do,” I say, watching him for a reaction.

“You have a year to figure things out. The album drops next week and the tour will start in a few months. Once it’s over, I’m done. I already have a few people calling to have me write for them,” he says and shrugs.

Kissing the top of my head, he continues. “You don’t have to worry about a new job. If you want to stay home with the kids, that’s fine with me,” he says with a twinkle in his eyes.

I laugh. “We have time before I have to decide whether or not I want to be a stay-at-home mom.”

“Are you sure about that?”

I stare at him with my brows drawn. Turning in his arms, I look up at him. He just smiles at me like a loon.

“What am I missing? Do you want to start trying?”

“When have we ever not been trying? We sure as hell have never prevented it from happening,” he says with mirth in his eyes.

“Okay, this is true,” I say and nod. I pause to think before musing aloud. “I don’t think I’ve had my period this month.”

“That’s my girl,” Bishop chuckles, dipping his head to take my lips. Then he breathes against them. “I was waiting for you to figure it out.”

“Oh my God! You think? This morning, that wasn’t just my nerves. We’re having a baby?” I say excitedly.

Bishop starts to sway my body in his arms as he presses his forehead to mine. He pecks my lips gently. I’m smiling from ear to ear.

“I think so. I hope so. Your body has been changing. I noticed last week,” he says with a bright smile.

“So begins the next chapter in our lives,” I whisper.

“So it begins,” he says and presses his lips to mine.

The kiss goes from soft to searing within seconds. I moan into his mouth as he palms my back and presses my curves into his hard body. Anticipation begins to fill my veins.

The sound of the zipper releasing on my dress reaches my ears. I reach to push his suit jacket from his broad shoulders. Bishop peels my dress away from my body, letting it hit the floor in a pool of fabric at my feet.
