I nearly choke on the food I’m chewing. I glance around to ensure no one is close enough to hear what he just said. He only looks back at me as he chews with a smug look on his face.

“I have no shame when it comes to you. Why are you looking all embarrassed and cute?”

“Why am I surprised? I’ve listened to some of your old music. Your mouth is filthy.”

He licks his lips. “You haven’t seen how filthy it can get. Later,” he says and winks.

I shake my head as I watch him eat. I note something as I watch him. Bishop has changed. He has this peacefulness about him that wasn’t there before. It looks good on him.

We share the perfect piece of chocolate cake with caramel drizzle for dessert. I can honestly say this was a five-star meal. I wasn’t surprised when Bishop said Chef Kennedy is a time-two Michelin star winner. I wanted to lick all the plates after the food was gone.

“That food was so good,” I sing as we finish the tour Bishop takes me on of the house.

Apparently, he took the video tour before booking for the night. I should have known he was up to something. Bishop only writes his songs on paper in his notebook. He had his laptop in his lap most of the evening while strumming his guitar here and there like he was working on a song.

I know now that was to keep me from paying attention to the fact that he was planning this date. Again, Bishop has shown how much he pays attention to detail. This date is everything.

“Want to pick your snacks for the movie? I got that one you wanted to see shipped in,” Bishop says as we end the tour in the movie theater.

“Wait, the one I showed you the trailer to the other night? That’s not supposed to be out for another three weeks.”

He shrugs. “You wanted to see it. I made it happen.”

I’m gushing with excitement. Although I wave off the snacks. I couldn’t eat another thing. Bishop, on the other hand, doesn’t even bat a lash as he grabs the snacks offered to us by the staff. He has a full-size popcorn and some candy. The man can pack it away.

My mind goes to how he burns off all that food and my body heats. I guess he does need the fuel. The man is insatiable.

I’m a bit surprised when he doesn’t pounce during the movie. He does tug me in for a hot kiss once but breaks it and places a kiss on my forehead. I think I catch a sugar rush from the sweetness of his tongue in my mouth afterward.

I’m going to keep it real. The movie wasn’t all I thought it would be. It was okay, nothing like the trailer hyped. I’m sort of happy when it comes to an end.

“Welp, you want to watch another? There’s that hot tub, or we could walk the grounds. The place is ours until the morning. We can do whatever you like,” Bishop says as the credits roll at the end of the movie.

“That wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. We don’t have to watch another. I think I would rather stay here and chill for a bit.”

Bishop looks around. “You know, this is one of the most comfortable theater rooms I’ve ever been in.”

“I was thinking the same thing. It’s more than the seats. The entire ambience is warm and calming. Perfect for a family to gather and watch a movie together.”

Bishop gets this look in his eyes as if thinking my words over and envisioning his own family in the space. The more I see him like this, the more I’m able to imagine him as a father. More specifically, the father of my children.

“You know, those were good times. Hanging with my brothers and Dwayne. I loved hanging in the movie room or around the pool out back,” he muses.

“You don’t have those things in your home?”

“I do, but I didn’t put as much thought into them. My focus was the studio. Now that I think of it. I didn’t put much thought into any of the rest of the house. I’m hardly home.”

“That makes sense, but something tells me you gave more attention to detail than you’re giving yourself credit for.”

He shrugs. “You might be right. God knows I can’t remember what the place looks like. I can’t even remember the last time I was home for long enough to look around the place.”

“You guys tour a lot, don’t you?”

Bishop groans. “Hell yeah. Too much.”

I reach to cup his cheek. “You sound so tired. Is it possible for you guys to take a break before the next tour?”

He snorts. “We’re going to hit the ground running for this new album. Slowing down isn’t in the cards. I’ll rest up when I can.”
