Take back every selfish, horrible deed I’d ever committed.

Be good enough for this perfect, chaos of a girl.

“One more, Reckless Angel,” I told her.

Because bliss gathered fast, racing down my spine and tightening my balls. Too bright and too blinding. And I was losing focus, a haze of euphoria clouding my sight. The only thing I could see was the woman who writhed, her tits bouncing with each thrust, her hands reaching out for me, stroking down my face as she whispered, “I love you, Caleb.”

The confession danced on her tongue as I let go.

I bucked into her, and a wall of pleasure split.

Breaking apart and spilling over.

An ocean that rose.

A dark abyss.

Starlit heavens.

Everything.

Everything.

I pulled out in time to spill my cum on her stomach, my body jolting as I spasmed with a pleasure greater than I’d ever known.

She shivered and shook.

Trembles rolled through her.

Sparks of life lighting on her gorgeous skin.

But her face. It was filled with the evidence of the words she’d just given to me.

And I wanted to admit it, too.

Say it, but I didn’t know how.

Paisley ran her fingertips down my lips, my chin, brushed them down until they were fluttering softly over the clock imprinted on my heart.

The day my bleak world went completely dim.

“You might not believe it, Caleb, but you deserve to be loved, too.”

FORTY-THREE

PAISLEY

Loving him was like floating on clouds of bliss while tiptoeing through shards of broken glass littered on the floor. Joy wrapping you in boughs of comfort while you waited for the moment you’d be cut.

His touch impassioned.

His need profound.

Oh, but his fear was so great.

I watched him as he stared at the man in the mirror as if it were a demon staring back.

Riddled in guilt and grief.

And I wished for a way to hold it. To share it with him. The blame he carried for what had happened to his sister and the two men who’d worked for him.

But Caleb Greyson wouldn’t let me pry it away.

He held onto it like service.

Like debt.

The days passed like that—ten days where I loved him with all that I had.

Ten days of me praying one day he would love me back.

That he might look in the mirror and see something different.

That he’d see the man who owned me—body, spirit, and mind.

FORTY-FOUR

CALEB

Moving to the window in my office, I nudged the heavy drape aside and peered out. Blue sky went on forever, the sun casting an endless warmth on the summer day.

Or maybe that warmth had everything to do with the sight of Evelyn and Paisley. Maybe they had everything to do with the way my chest expanded and the blackened mess that had been my heart pushed at my ribs.

Beneath a towering oak, its arms thick and its branches covered in green, they’d spread a blanket out on the lawn. A picnic basket was open beside them, and Evelyn was on her knees in front of Paisley, her hands animated as she flung and danced them through the air, clearly telling a story she’d conjured from her mind.

She’d been doing that a lot lately.

Playing.

Giggling.

Imagining.

Paisley’s head rocked back, and she let her laughter ride toward the sky. I couldn’t hear it from there, but I knew it’d be throaty and low. Just the thought of it sent a gnarl of greed to my guts.

A second later, Evelyn dove at her, wrapping her little arms around Paisley’s neck and sending her toppling back onto the blanket. Evelyn wrestled around on top of her, and Paisley began to tickle her, the two becoming a flailing pile of joy where they played beneath the sun of a perfect day.

Emotion crested.

Devotion so thick it obstructed the flow of oxygen.

I would do anything for them.

Absolutely anything to keep them safe.

My phone rang from my pocket, and I dug it out, jerking myself from the view out the window and pacing back into my office.

My chest tightened when I saw it was Mert. He only called when there were major issues he could not handle. The last time he’d called was to tell me Paisley had been in the accident with the horse. Suffice it to say, I did not relish hearing from him.

“Greyson,” I answered.

“Mr. Greyson, it’s Mert.”

“What is it?” I couldn’t keep the hardness from my voice.

He hesitated for a moment before he released a shaky breath. “We have an issue out in pasture nine.”

“What kind of issue?”

“The kind of issue you’re going to want to take a look at, sir. I sent one of the hands, Manny, to pick you up. He’ll meet you out front of the house.”

“I’m heading down now.”

Dread curled through my senses, tightening every cell in a fist.

Always on edge.

I would need to return to Seattle soon. End this threat that waited for us there because I would never rest or find peace until it was done.
