“Holy fuck,” Noah said as he slowly pulled out of me. I could feel some of his come dripping down my leg.

“That was incredible,” I said. I rolled over, seeing a drunken glaze roll over Noah’s eyes. He smiled as if he’d just gotten the best news of his life. Noah and I always had great sex, but something about tonight felt extra special, extra hot.

“God, I’m so fucking in love with you,” I said, unable to stop myself. My brain was full of glittery stars and bright rainbows and singing bluebirds. I was in a musical without any music (which was likely for the best, considering I was a terrible singer). This was my happily ever after, and we had only just begun our story. It made me excited for our future together.

Noah kissed me, both of us still working to catch our breath. “You’re my soul mate, Jake. My other half. I’m so fucking in love with you, too.” He laughed through another kiss, the bubbly ecstasy from our shared climax still working its way through us.

“You make me feel invincible,” I told him. “And damn is your dick magical. Seriously, you should have to register that thing for being a lethal weapon. I’m sure it could give me a heart attack one day.”

Noah laughed some more, the sound adding to my musical theory. “Let’s stick to just giving you orgasms.”

We shared a couple of lazy kisses between us. Jokes and giggles continued to flow until my thigh got uncomfortably sticky. I begrudgingly got out of bed and gave myself a quick sink bath, giving the bathroom over to Noah, who still hadn’t showered that night. He entered the bathroom with phone in hand, his eyes glued to the screen.

Instantly, my heart dropped. “Everything okay?” I asked. I didn’t want tonight to be ruined by another threatening text.

“Yeah, yeah. Eric was just texting me. He and Tristan are about to stake out Robby’s place.” He filled his lungs with a deep breath, letting it whistle out. “I really don’t want them getting involved.”

“Eric’s an ex-cop, right? He’ll be fine. He knows how to do those things.”

“I guess.” With a sigh, he put the phone on the counter and came over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his head on my chest. “It’ll be okay, right?”

“It will,” I said, believing it with everything I had. How could it not turn out okay? There was no other choice, not in my eyes.

Noah stayed in my arms for a few moments longer before he pried himself off and went to turn on the shower, turning the knob to as hot as it went. He loved his steaming showers.

“Hey, where are the sheets kept? I’m gonna swap ours out.”

Noah leaned out of the shower, shampoo already foaming in his hair. “There should be some in the laundry. It’s in that closet in the living room.”

“Got it.”

“Thanks, babe.”

I put on some boxers and took off the sticky sheets, bundling them up. That was one (of the only) drawback of being bi—the amount of come sometimes meant midnight trips to the laundry room. Still, it was a very small inconvenience. Especially considering how much I enjoyed shooting that come, getting rammed by the love of my life.

Yeah, I’d make ten midnight trips to the laundry room and still be down for an eleventh.

I walked through the dark living room. This place was much smaller than the last cabin and had a fraction of the number of windows, which I actually preferred. I wasn’t much of a mountain man, and a lot of that had to do with a ton of horror movies my father had me watch as a kid. Looking out into dark woods never gave me a sense of comfort, so I actually liked the lack of windows in this place.

Oddly, one of them was brighter than the rest. The motion-activated light must have been flipped on by a squirrel. It turned off quickly, meaning whatever was out there had skittered off into the trees.

I went to the laundry closet, dumping the sheets inside the washing machine. I reached up for the detergent, hearing the floor creak behind me.

“That was a quick shower,” I said, uncapping the detergent. I was slightly surprised. Noah enjoyed taking long showers, even when they were late at night.

I felt the needle plunge into my neck. For a moment, I thought I’d been stung by something. I went to swat at whatever bug had stabbed me but could hardly raise my arm. I stumbled forward. The needle fell to the ground. I turned, my vision blurring, my words slurring.

The world went black, curtains dropping over my vision as my legs gave out.

NOAH BARNES

I took my time in the shower, enjoying how the steamy hot water felt against my skin. It was a tiny bathroom, which meant it was easily converted into a sauna. I scrubbed and let myself relax under the showerhead, enjoying how all my limbs felt like wet noodles. Sex with Jake never failed to be explosive, but tonight was an entirely new level. It was the kind of sex reserved for your wildest, steamiest, hottest dreams, shared with someone you connect with beyond just the physical.
