I stretched out under the table, accidentally bumping into Jake’s feet, but he didn’t seem to mind, leaving them right where they were. I grabbed my plate and reached for Jake’s, taking it into the kitchen and washing it before Vivianne realized what I was doing.

“You really didn’t have to do that,” she said, arms crossed and head shaking, her light brown bob catching the kitchen light.

“It was honestly the least I can do.”

“Well, you’re welcome to come here anytime you want.” She pulled me in for one more hug. “It was great seeing you again, Noah.”

“You too, Ms. Perez.”

“Viv,” she said with a flourish of her hand. She walked us to the front door, moving with a bounce in her step that wasn’t there before. Her mood had clearly lifted from when we had first arrived. It made me wonder if we should stay longer, but Jake was already stepping onto the porch, and the last thing I wanted to do was overstay my welcome.

“See ya next time,” I said, leaving Jake and Vivianne to their goodbyes by themselves. I heard him ask if she needed anything else just as I was getting into my car, his voice cutting off as I closed the door.

My phone buzzed. I figured it was probably someone from the book club wanting to check in with us. Instead, I saw my neighbor’s name across my screen.

“Hey, are you home?” he asked.

I shot a quick text back. “No, why?”

“That’s what I figured. But I saw a light on in your kitchen, did you leave it on?”

My eyebrows drew together. I racked my brain, trying to remember if I flicked the light on, but why would I do that when I had left my house while it was bright as hell outside?

“No, I don’t think that was me. Is it still on?” I texted back.

“Nope, it’s not.”

“Weird….. thanks for letting me know.”

“Of course. I’ll keep an eye out.”

I texted back two orange hearts and a thanks before stuffing the phone back into my pocket. A sharp chill crisscrossed down my spine. I looked in the rearview mirror, suddenly picturing a masked figure rising up from my back seat with a bag ready to close over my head.

The door opened, Jake getting in, smelling like his mom’s cooking.

“What? You look like you saw a ghost.”

I shook my head, but that didn’t shake the feeling I was being watched. “I just got this weird text from Robby. He said my kitchen light went on and off, but I haven’t been home for hours.”

“Shit, seriously?”

I nod, turning my car on and sucking in a deep breath, the oxygen barely making it in before my lungs squeezed it right back out.

“Well, looks like we’re having another sleepover, then.”

“Huh?” I asked.

“You. Me. Playing Super Smash and drinking beer until we get tired. It’s not like you’ll be getting any sleep in your own place.”

And who’s to say I want to get any sleep at yours?

“Are you calling me a scaredy-cat?” I asked instead.

“Not at all. I’m—”

“Because I am,” I said, saving him from an explanation. We both laughed, which felt odd considering the potent fear that had a vise grip around my chest only moments ago. “Alright, fine.” I pulled out of Vivianne’s driveway and headed toward Jake’s house, secretly grateful (and excited) about having another night sleeping under the same roof. The thought of going back home and walking through an empty house only to toss and turn in my bed with the lights on really didn’t seem appealing to me.

But spending the night with Jake?

Yeah. Yeah, I think I could handle that.

“Crap,” I said as I was sinking down into Jake’s couch. “I didn’t bring any sleeping clothes again.”

“I’m starting to think you’re doing that on purpose, bud.” Jake shot me a wink and disappeared into his bedroom.

Bud?

… Why did that make me kind of hard?

Thankfully, I wasn’t left to my own devices for much longer. Jake walked back into the room, having changed into light green shorts that made it extremely difficult for me to keep my eyes above waist level. Was he even wearing underwear? It didn’t seem like it with the way he bounced around in there. I took a chug of my beer, needing it to blunt some of the edges of my increasingly dirty thoughts.

And of course, instead of blunting anything, the beer only fueled the fire. My leg bounced, shaking the couch, making me hyperaware of my growing cock.

I stopped the bouncing, but my dick didn’t stop growing.

Fuckin’ hell, this is going to be an interesting night.

He handed me another pair of shorts. “I already folded all my clothes, so you don’t have to wear one of my boxers again,” he said, grin on his face.

“Ah, man, really?” I asked, pouting as I grabbed the shorts.
