“There it goes,” Liam said with a shake of his head.

His mom groaned.

But all TJ saw was red. He heard Cooper yelling something behind him as he came down the hill, but TJ let his beast free.

And it felt fucking good.

Chapter Eleven

“Damon, you want to explain to me why my nephew just dragged your son into my office like a lion dragging an antelope?” Big Tag growled into the phone.

They were sitting in the conference room at McKay-Taggart, and despite the fact that it was hours later, she could still feel the moment she knew TJ had come for her.

And see his face when he realized she’d worn her perfectly nice dress out on her date.

Pain. He’d been in pain.

At least now she knew he was finally back. Cooper had whisked her away while TJ had been taking out his frustrations on Oliver Knight. She’d asked to be dropped off at her office. She’d been denied, so now she’d been sitting at the conference table for over an hour and a half wondering where the hell TJ was.

And wishing she had a cardigan since apparently she was in her boob dress.

The door opened and Kala walked in, frowning her father’s way before joining Lou at the table. “Has he been growling the entire time?”

Lou took a long sip of coffee. “When he’s not cursing or vowing revenge. I don’t know. It’s been a weird day. Did you know Uncle Li made TJ’s mom stop for pancakes on the way back? Zach nearly lost his damn mind. I think they left that Oliver guy in the trunk or something.”

“Yeah, they’re a feisty bunch,” Kala agreed.

Despite the fact that they were in a safe place, Lou leaned in, her voice going low. “Did you tell your dad that they know your secret? We probably should tell him. Unless TJ killed the British guy.”

“He’s alive. Mostly,” Kala replied. “TJ apparently got in a couple of good kicks to Ollie’s balls. He’s sitting in Dad’s office with a bag of ice on his dick. You think my dad’s been cursing. I listened in on Ollie and Sami calling their dad.”

“It was perfectly dreadful,” the woman called Sami said as she entered the conference room. Big Tag had exited, pacing the halls like a wrathful tiger. “But I told Ollie it would be. Even our mum’s pissed, and my mother is practically a saint. She cursed at my brother in five different languages, and then told me it was my fault too. I said if she wanted things to be my fault, she shouldn’t have birthed such a stubborn wanker. Ollie mostly moaned. Your boyfriend knows how to kick a dick. I’d like to learn some of those moves.”

Samantha Knight was a gorgeous woman in her early twenties, with a halo of curly blonde hair. Now that she’d studied her a bit, Lou could plainly see the two were siblings.

Where was TJ? She hadn’t seen him come in. She must have been staring down at the laptop she’d logged into, trying to find anything she could on the mysterious Jester. He hadn’t come to find her. He would have walked right past the conference room, but he hadn’t stopped.

She was mad at him. Hurt by him. Worried about him. And he hadn’t even waved as he walked in.

Kala turned to the younger woman, a cold look coming over her face. “Is it true you threatened Lou that if she didn’t come with you, you would let our secret get out in the intelligence community?”

She’d told Kala the whole story.

Sami frowned. “That was Oliver. Look, none of this was my idea. I wanted to call you, but Ollie’s been working with another team on this for a long time. While we’re normally a team, I wasn’t brought in on The Jester stuff until a few days ago. The fact that we know you is precisely why he included me. We agreed to bring Lou in without his partner because we didn’t want to risk exposing the twins. That’s why we were taking her to Toronto. But here’s the truth—he would never have done it. He would never have told anyone. Our MI6 bosses don’t even know you’re twins. They don’t understand our connection at all. Big Tag has been excellent at scrubbing your history clean.”

“That was my aunt,” Kala replied. “I can still remember the day and my mom crying about it and my dad saying there’s no crying in espionage and then my mom yelling and the door closing and…ick. Lou, you and TJ should go at it in front of my dad more often. I take back everything. He deserves it.”

Lou was over the whole kidnapping thing. She had other worries. “I’d like everything you have on The Jester. If you know TJ at all, you have to know he’s not capable of behaving in this manner.”
