P.S. Red is the only other color besides black you should wear.

Crue

Asshole.

CHAPTER 13

Crue

“I don’t care what you say… I’m coming,” Angel says as she forces herself into my car. Dominic swears from the front seat as she does. “I know you’re going to see her. It’s been what? A week? And I can tell you’re having withdrawals because your killings have doubled.”

I look at Dominic and eye him through the rearview mirror.

“What? She knows everything.”

“Only because you fucking tell her,” I yell.

Angel rubs her belly as she sits next to me. If she weren’t pregnant right now, I would throw her out of this car myself. “I don’t have withdrawals. To me, women are a means to an end. They are there to lie on their back and fall pregnant.” Angel laughs in a half-crazed hyena pitch. “Dominic.” I grind my teeth.

“You expect her to have your kids, and what? Marry you as well?” Angel asks. “You’re barking up the wrong tree. You do know I still talk to her, right?”

“Of course we do. Your phones are tapped.” Her eyes widen, and she reaches to the front and hits Dominic.

“Why didn’t you tell me that?”

“I don’t listen. It’s just in case anyone ever tries to threaten you,” he explains, trying to appease her. When in reality it’s because I like listening to Rya speak. I had to decide if I wanted to go after her, and it took me years to decide. But somehow, without her even knowing, she got under my skin, and when I saw her for the first time again, there was no going back.

She is the woman I am going to marry.

“I listen,” I tell her with a grin.

“I hate you,” she grumbles, and I merely smile.

We come to a stop outside a bar. I spot Rya seated inside with a few of her work colleagues, mostly men, and before we can say anything, Angel is out of the car and heading inside.

“Can you try to be nicer to her?” Dominic asks.

I raise a brow at him. “What?” I say as if I didn’t hear him correctly.

“She’s pregnant with your niece.”

“And?”

“You treat her so awful.” He shakes his head.

“I treat her like a sister. How else would you like me to treat her? If she were any other person talking to me the way she does, you know for a fact they would not be breathing.” I turn toward the bar’s window and see Rya happy, with a large smile as she hugs Angel. Dominic and I stay there for a few minutes to watch the two women interact.

“I love her,” Dominic says.

“Love is dumb. It will get you killed.”

“So what is it with Rya, then?”

I don’t hesitate when I answer, “Obsession.” I smile. I wonder if I fucked her enough, if she would be out of my system or stuck there for life.

I’d been thinking about her all day in those tight, lacy red pieces, and it had driven me half mad.

I guess there is only one way to find out.

CHAPTER 14

Rya

At first, I think I’m seeing things because not only is Angel here, but she is heavily pregnant. I am shocked. Knowing about a heavily pregnant Angel and seeing a heavily pregnant Angel are two different things.

Her arms automatically go around me, and she pulls me from my chair. I awkwardly hug her back, the height difference obvious, especially when I’m in my four-inch heels. She doesn’t say anything as we hug, but I can feel her crying as she holds me. I rub her back and wait for her to calm down, and when I think she’s finally about to let go, she squeezes me a little bit tighter, her round belly pushing against me.

Eventually, she starts to calm down.

Pulling back, I look down at her.

“You’re here.” I lift my hand and wipe away her tears. She smiles and swipes at both eyes with her hands, smudging her mascara.

“Sorry. I’m so sorry. I tried to come see you so many times.”

“It’s okay, you’re here now. I mean, how did you know I was here, though?” I ask, confused. I never told anyone I was coming here, yet she walked in like she knew I would be there. We’d been trying to organise a catch-up time but everything had fallen through so far this week.

“Him,” she says and throws her thumb over her shoulder. I look up just in time to see the door open, and Crue walk in. People stare, then just as quickly, they avert their gazes. I’m here with a few work colleagues who were at my party that night. Which means they would have seen him and what he did. Some start to move away while I remain standing in place as he walks closer. Shit, this is bad. Seeing us together once could be considered a coincidence but seeing us together twice is problematic.
