“I’m going to keep a close eye on her,” Bear assured him.

“That’s good. Listen to your Daddy.” Wyatt directed the last part to Daisy.

“Oh!” she gasped as she realized Wyatt knew she was Little.

Her Daddy smoothed his hand over her back to reassure him. “Wyatt’s safe, Baby girl.”

Daisy nodded. She studied the ground under her yellow shoes before peeping up to ask Wyatt, “Are you a Daddy?”

“Yes,” he answered simply.

His simple answer made Daisy peek at Avery. Her subtle head shake clued Daisy in. The partners were simply that—work companions. Even though Wyatt had divulged his status as a Daddy, Avery wasn’t ready to share her story.

The radio in the car squawked and both officers paused to listen.

“That’s us. We’ll need to head out. I’ll be in touch,” Wyatt stated as he and Avery headed back toward their squad car.

Chapter Seven

“Come in, Baby girl,” her Daddy invited as he set her overnight bag inside the door.

Daisy could tell from his even deeper than normal voice that this was important to him. A warm feeling flared to life inside her. She liked knowing her presence in his house was a big deal—like she was something special and needed. After squeezing his hand, Daisy stepped into his home.

It was just as she had imagined her Daddy’s home would be. Big, oversized furniture was arranged in a casual, homey style. The main room was huge with an open floor plan, allowing her to see into the kitchen and dining area as well.

“Your house is very welcoming,” she complimented her Daddy before covering her mouth to yawn.

“Thank you, Baby girl. I’m glad you like it. You’re so tired. It’s past your bedtime.”

“I don’t really have a bedtime, Daddy.”

“You do now. Little girls need lots of sleep. Come with me. Let me show you the surprise I put together just for you.”

Curious, she followed him. They paused in the hallway for a minute as he opened a door and turned on the light. Stepping inside, Daisy clung to his hand as she looked around in amazement. A nursery!

“This is so beautiful. It’s made for a fairy princess!” she breathed.

“Close. It was made for my floral princess,” he corrected with a chuckle.

The room was painted a warm yellow. Daisy stroked her free hand over her dress as she realized he’d chosen a color very close to the one she wore. She crowded back, needing to be close to him as she looked around. Oversized baby furniture stood against different walls. The crib on the left and a changing table on the right. At the far end sat a wide rocker and a toy chest.

She turned her head to see the wall slightly behind her. A smaller chair sat facing away from the center of the room. A design spread across the walls on each side of the corner. Curious, Daisy walked towards it. The words, Think Twice, I Love You, Be Good, were scattered over the surfaces at eye level to someone sitting in that chair.

“What’s this, Daddy?”

“That’s your naughty corner.”

“My naughty corner?” Daisy repeated, sure that she had heard him incorrectly.

“Yes.”

“I’m not going to be naughty,” she retorted.

“All Littles make bad choices from time to time. I don’t think you’ll be there often, but you will sit in that chair at some point.”

“I don’t think so,” she corrected with a sniff. A glance at his face informed her that no matter how much she objected, her Daddy wasn’t going to remove that chair. Daisy decided to change the subject.

“Do you think I could paint some flowers on the walls?”

“I think that would be incredible. You figure out what you need and we’ll make a list and go get the paint and brushes. We’ll block out time on our schedules to paint. For now, it’s time for my Little girl to be in bed.”

Daisy turned to look at the crib. Its beautifully curved white wooden slats were graceful and inviting. It looked like a bed designed with care for someone loved. “I don’t want to mess it up,” she suggested.

“Your crib won’t be happy without a Little to take care of. That’s what it has been designed to do. Without someone nestled inside, it loses its worth,” Teddy answered.

“But what if it isn’t supposed to be mine?” Daisy whispered, looking longingly at the crib.

“Do you trust me, Baby girl?”

“Y… Yes.” She didn’t understand her stuttered answer. There was no one she trusted more than her Daddy. From the beginning, when she had met him at Blaze, she’d trusted the enormous dungeon master. He kept everyone safe.

As if reading her thoughts, her Daddy commented, “Give yourself time to adjust. There’s no pressure.”

Daisy rushed forward to wrap her arms around his waist. She clung to his body, allowing his strength to steady her. When he stroked her back, she closed her eyes and whispered, “I so want this to be real.”
