I place my fingers against his face and gently drum them against his temple. “Okay, Sawyer. You need to relax your mind. Take a deep breath in and then out. Are you relaxed?”

“Mmhmm,” he rumbles, sounding bored.

Then without warning, my arm locks around the base of his throat and I pull hard, blocking off his airway as I use my other hand to hold my arm in place and pull tighter, his stupid muscly throat making it almost impossible. “Abracadabra, motherfucker!” I call as Dalton howls with laughter, shouting encouragement to pull harder and put my fucking back into it.

I give it my all, but Sawyer just sits there as though I’m not even touching him. “Really?” he mutters, clearly not impressed.

“Go to sleep,” I grunt, almost out of breath. “I’m gonna make you my bitch.”

Sawyer gives me another few seconds before letting out a heavy sigh and gripping my arm, then before I know what the fuck is happening, he stands up and flips me right over his shoulder. A loud shriek tears from the back of my throat before my back slams against the ground with Sawyer coming down over me, keeping me pinned with his big body. Both my wrists are locked in just one of his hands and braced above my head. His knee is jammed between my legs, shoved right up against my pussy, but it’s his face right there in front of mine that has me gasping for air.

Sawyer holds my stare as my eyes widen, still trying to process how the fuck that just happened. I could have sworn I had that one in the bag. “Next time you let Dalton teach you something like that, make sure it’s not so fucking predictable. Or at least do a few push-ups first. Doll, you need some muscle before you go and try to choke someone out.”

I give him a blank stare before a grin pulls at my lips. “Made you smile though, right?”

Sawyer holds my stare, not a smile in sight, but the longer he looks at me, the harder he fights against it. And sure enough, a smile starts pulling at the corners of his lips before turning into a full-blown grin. He rolls his eyes and shakes his head but refuses to release me. “You’re a fucking idiot.”

I shrug my shoulders as a brilliant warmth spreads through my chest. “Maybe,” I whisper, raising my chin just enough to let my lips gently brush over his. “But I’m an idiot who can’t stand to see you looking so down.”

Something softens in his eyes before he dips his head lower, kissing me properly. I melt into him as his other hand brushes down my body and grabs a handful of ass.

His kiss becomes hungrier, desperate, and I match his urgency, more than ready to take him right here on the ground. If any of his friends feel the need to join, then I’m down for that too.

“Wow,” Zade grunts, his tone the biggest mood killer known to man. “You’re really gonna fuck her right there while your sister is held prisoner twenty feet away. Fuck, Sawyer. I knew you were a savage, but I had no idea you were this cold.”

Sawyer’s head pulls up, leaving me high and dry, and he lets out a heavy sigh. He gets to his feet before pulling me up with him and fixing a heavy stare on Zade. “She’s not a fucking prisoner,” he reminds him, something he’s been saying since the moment she got here. “She’s just chilling out in there, staying away from the bullshit until the ritual passes.”

“Right,” Zade says, playing on his guilt. “You’ve been locked in that cell a time or two. Tell me, did it feel like you were just chilling out?”

A chill sails over my body, remembering the time I was held hostage in that room, and while Cara isn’t being detained in the same way I was—drugged and bound—it’s still not somewhere I’d like to spend multiple hours at a time.

“Fuck off, man,” Sawyer grunts, dropping back onto the couch, his gaze locked on the cell’s hidden door. “She’s only here so we can keep an eye on her, make sure she’s not mixing with the wrong crowd again. Besides, she’s got her Kindle in there. She’ll be okay.”

I scoff. “Right, because her Kindle battery life is really going to last that long.”

Sawyer glances up at me with his brows furrowed as if he did not even consider that, and honestly, I’m surprised. He usually thinks everything through.

Letting out a soft sigh, I drop down on the coffee table, meeting Sawyer’s guilt-ridden stare, hating how broken he is. “It’s alright not to be okay with this. Cara fucked up, and she needs to be held accountable for that,” I say before turning my gaze on the ultimate cock blocker. “But . . . is she really a prisoner, though? Does she have to be locked in there?”
