The thought of stuffing any more food down my throat has me wanting to throw up all over again, but I quickly find a little bit of control and try to compose myself, knowing the second I open this small door, Easton will be able to see right through me. He’s just that good.

“Could you grab me some paper towels or something like that?” I ask.

I hear him moving around the bathroom, and I quickly shove the note back into my pocket. Barely a moment later, he shoves a handful of paper towels over the top of the stall, and I take them greedily, wiping over my face and starting to feel better.

Confident there aren’t chunks all over myself, I make my way out of the stall and run straight into Easton’s chest, his gaze locked on my face. He doesn’t say anything, just watches me, and just like that, he becomes suspicious. He allows me space to step around him and I move to the sink to wash my hands and rinse the taste of vomit out of my mouth.

He doesn’t take his eyes off me, and I’m grateful when he allows me to walk out of the bathroom without questioning me. Not in the mood to keep playing this bullshit waiting game with the boys, I stride right up to their table and avoid Zade’s gaze like the plague. “I’m ready to go,” I tell them, watching as relief flickers through Dalton and Sawyer’s eyes.

“Done fucking with my night, I see,” Dalton says, standing from the table. “Why the sudden change of heart?”

I glance away, not able to handle the intensity in his stare, but thankfully, Easton chimes in, a smirk stretching across his lips. “She over-ate. I caught her blowing chunks in the bathroom.”

Humiliation washes over me as the boys laugh, and not wanting to listen to their shit, I turn on my heel and stalk out of the restaurant, more determined than ever to get my ass back down in those cells and break my father free.

Chapter 21

CROSS

Mmm, so fucking gorgeous.

I stand in Zade’s bedroom, watching as Oakley sleeps, just as I’ve done most nights after getting her back from the cells. Not gonna lie, the first night Zade questioned it, but quickly came to the realization that it’s best just to let it go. I only need a few hours and then I’m good to move on.

I’m a people watcher. I don’t read them by the words that come out of their mouths, but by the way their body responds, and Oakley Quinn . . . her body fucking screams to be heard. Which is exactly why I’m here now.

My Pretty is a pretty little liar, and I’m going to find out why.

After walking out of the restaurant bathroom stall, I could see it all over her face. She wasn’t sick because she over-ate. Something happened to fuck her up and cause such a violent reaction, and it’s something big.

As she sat at her table being the little spitfire that she is, she was fine. She held a stubbornness in her eyes that got my dick hard under the table, and if we weren’t in the middle of a restaurant, I would have had no choice but to go to town on myself. But after the waitress took her plates away, that stubbornness was replaced with burning curiosity. She got up immediately, walking too fast for her normal stride, and I was out of my seat in seconds, waving Dalton off when he attempted to go after her first.

Oakley Quinn was delivered a note by that waitress, and I wanna know what the fuck it said.

Moving through Zade’s bedroom, I drop down beside Oakley and slowly pull open the bedside drawer, keeping my eye on her to make sure she doesn’t wake. Scanning through the drawer, I find nothing before trailing my fingers beneath the edge of the mattress and under the floor rug, trying to figure out where the hell she would have put it.

It occurs to me that she could have flushed it in the restaurant bathroom, but she’s not the type to dispose of things. When she was locked up in the prison, she held onto the note Joe sent her like it was her only security blanket, so there’s no way she would throw this away.

When she came home, she showered and went straight to bed, grabbing one of Zade’s shirts from his closet, not bothering to walk down to her room and find something comfortable of her own. And with that, I make a point to search through Zade’s closet before moving through to his private bathroom. All that’s in here is the dirty clothes hamper and I search through it, plucking out the tight jeans that made her ass look fucking edible.
