Dalton gets stuck across the warehouse, and Zade grunts with irritation as the asshole reaches him, swinging wide with a pair of brass knuckles toward Zade’s face. He avoids the hit like a pro, but the guy is relentless and keeps coming for him. Even I can tell he’s poorly trained, but he’s got brute strength on his side. The guy is a fucking monster.

He pushes Zade back, and I hastily scramble away when someone grabs me from behind. I scream, and without even taking a second to look, I swing hard with my knife, clutching it tightly in my palm. The blade sinks into the guy’s ribs, and he roars out in pain, his grip somehow tightening on my body.

Panic like I’ve never known claims me, and my fight-or-flight instincts kick in. I try to stab him again, but he’s ready for me now. His arm locks around my chest, pinning me against his body. With his free hand, he catches my fist and squeezes it so fucking hard that the knife clatters against the blood-stained concrete—a sound that will forever stay with me.

Zade grunts. His back is turned to me, but I’m sure he’s aware of what’s going on. When he quickly snaps the asshole’s neck like a fucking twig, he spins to find me, his stare wild and raw.

“ZADE,” I scream, everything happening all too fast.

His hand flinches at his side, moving like lightning, and my eyes widen with horror as he raises a gun, his finger already braced against the trigger. “DOWN,” he roars, blindly trusting me to do as I’m told, and fuck, who the hell am I to argue with him now?

I attempt to throw myself down, but with the guy’s arm braced against my chest, there’s not far I can go. I only have one chance to get this right, and I didn’t come this far to die like this.

Taking no chances, Zade pulls the trigger, and I feel the whoosh of the bullet flying over my ducked head and blasting right through the guy’s skull. His arm falls free of my chest, and my momentum sends me stumbling forward.

Zade grabs me as two guys come for us, one on each side, and he quickly throws me down. My knees graze the concrete beside Rust’s lifeless body, his dead eyes staring right at me. But with the guys now on us and Zade fighting right over my head, I have no choice but to stay where I am or risk my world being quite literally shredded to pieces by their sharp daggers.

I use the moment to find Dalton, making sure he’s doing alright. He’s got three guys on him, but I see Sawyer jumping through the broken window like a fucking cat, springing right into the action.

He jumps in to help Dalton, but Dalton lets out a grunted refusal. “Get Oakley out of here,” he roars over the fight and gunshots. “I’ll hold them off.”

My stare is wild as Sawyer’s gaze connects with mine. He immediately makes his way for me, and I find myself wondering what the fuck happened to Easton. God, I hope he’s okay.

Dalton holds the three guys off with ease, and I watch him in awe. I knew he was good, but fuck, I didn’t realize just how well-trained these guys are. Dalton’s like a fucking ninja, quickly eliminating his targets, and before I can even suck in a breath, his three targets are down to one.

Sawyer gets stuck trying to dodge and weave the madness breaking out around him, narrowly avoiding multiple fights in order to get to me. He and I both know every second counts.

I keep my stare locked on his face as he makes his way across the darkened room, wishing that someone had thought to turn on the lights in this place, or at the very least, turned their high beams on to give us something to work with. Sawyer gets halfway across the room, having no choice but to stop and slit someone’s throat. Blood gushes out all over his shirt. He pushes the bleeding guy away, and as his body falls to the ground, one of the two assholes hovering over my head drops heavily to the ground as well, splashing blood all around me.

The guy stares at me, not quite dead yet, and it’s the most fucked-up thing I’ve ever seen.

Zade continues to fight the other guy, quickly gaining on him now that it’s just one on one. As the boys work from either side of the warehouse, they quickly start thinning out their enemies.

Sawyer is just about to me when my head whips around the room, trying to figure out our best way out of here. I see the old man in the suit across the warehouse at the same time Dalton does. His hand is held high, his gun aimed right at Zade’s head, and despite the distance, something tells me the asshole never misses.
