“You don’t speak for our Alpha.” This was Raymond.

Alexander was growing tired of his disgust and lack of respect. He could have already torn his insides out, but he’d been a good little vampire and followed the rules.

“I speak for every single person, living or dead here. If you want to put the lives of your Alpha, your daughter, and their pack at risk, be my guest, but Disaster of the Otherworld are coming.” He turned toward Brandon. “You and I both know Crazy Lizzie is never wrong. She may not be quite as accurate with the times of these occurrences, but she knows they’re going to happen.”

“You cannot put any credit into a crazy witch,” Raymond said.

Alexander couldn’t stand him anymore. With a single flash, he was in front of the human, his fingers wrapped around his flesh.

“Don’t,” Brandon said.

He didn’t let go of Raymond. Crazy Lizzie was a friend. They had seen a great many battles together. What many people don’t know was that they’d also saved each other a time or two over the centuries.

“Crazy, Lizzie might be, but she is not just any witch. You will never disrespect her in my company again.”

“Alpha?” Raymond was choking and Alexander loosened his hold.

“You have no place to disrespect her. She is a valued witch, and yes, she is a little crazy, but she has never told a lie. She talks in riddles but that’s just who she is.”

Alexander had heard enough. He needed to get away from the human’s animosity before he did something drastic, like kill him. He wanted to kill him.

“Where are you going?” Brandon asked.

The only reason Raymond was still breathing was because of his association with Brandon’s woman. The man was Elle’s father.

This was not his place to set right, but he was there to help them. He knew division tore them apart, which was why he purposefully stayed. Also, it had to do with a sweet young woman who kept meeting up with him in the forest.

Layla was such a breath of fresh air. Even in the darkness, he saw the lightness of her blonde hair, the sparkle of her blue eyes, and the teasing temptation of her sweet, plump lips.

Stepping out of the front door, into the night, he looked back at Brandon. “I suggest you get your human in line. I get that he has an overall hatred of my kind and after what I saw of his wife and daughter, I can understand, but that wasn’t me. I’m here to protect all, and I don’t have to be dealt insults while I’m here.”

He didn’t listen to Brandon’s response. Vanishing into the night, he made his way toward the spot where Layla usually met him, and he couldn’t help but smile. She was just a few feet in front of him.

After removing Elle’s enthrallment, Raymond had asked for him to place a permanent block on his wife, Vivian. Alexander had done that.

She was never going to remember falling for a vampire, or how easily she’d been seduced. He had warned Brandon and Raymond that Vivian was a weak human with a weak mind. They would need to keep a close eye on her because it wouldn’t take long for other beings to find her and use her. He didn’t believe she was the current threat, though. Someone had to already be here for the Disaster of the Otherworld to be targeting.

“I know you’re here,” Layla said.

In her hand she held a single daisy. She turned toward him and offered a smile. He didn’t know if she had gotten changed for him, but either way, the white dress against her pale skin looked beautiful. Her innocence seemed to be shining bright tonight.

“And how do you know that?” he asked, making his way toward her.

“I heard you.”

This made Alexander pause. No one ever heard him approach before. Shaking off the unusual sensation, he moved in close to her. He wanted to reach out and touch her, to draw her back against him, but he held himself in check.

Alexander had touched her, placing a hand on her arm, or even touching her hair, but he’d not gotten to embracing her. He hadn’t overstepped that boundary, not yet anyway.

It had been a long time since he last touched a human. He didn’t know if they were quite as fragile as they once were.

“It’s getting close to the full moon,” she said.

Alexander looked up to the sky and saw the moon was growing once again. “Indeed it is.”

“What do you have to do during the full moon?” she asked, spinning around to face him.

“Me?”

“Aren’t vampires and werewolves supposed to be natural-born enemies?”

He chuckled. “According to human folklore, yes.”

“You’re not?”

“Oh, we are, but the full moon doesn’t bother me. The stench of dog is already repugnant to me. If anything, I feel I should hold a flower or an air freshener during the full moon.”
