Joker spread his arms. “What’s there to lose? If it means we can stop talking about it, I’ll go see the place. Just find a good one.”

Beast exhaled and finally smiled wider. “I know moving out would be a pain, but maybe it would do us some good, too.”

“I can’t stand this anymore! Am I your spokesperson that I have to deal with all this shit for you?” screeched a female voice, echoing through the corridors and silencing all conversations, which allowed Laurent to notice the rhythmic clicking of heels against the floor.

Knight was on his feet before the woman even came in. “Jordan! What happened?”

A slim woman entered wearing a black dress that reached her knees and misshapen shoes with a very highly elevated, slim heel that made her gait deformed and wiggly. Her golden hair swirled in perfect waves as she tossed her head in a theatrical display of frustration. “I did as you asked and tried to talk to those builders, but one of them kept getting into my personal space and flirting. Why won’t you have some other girl fuck them, if that’s what it takes? I am done!” she said and spun around, walking off before Knight even reached her.

“Jordan! Wait! Which one of those fuckers was flirting with you?”

“What do you care?” she yelled. “You’re here eating fucking chili while I have to deal with club matters for you?”

Laurent took the opportunity offered by the commotion and quickly turned to Beast, unsure who else to ask about the thing that kept prodding at the back of his mind. “Should I curse more?” he whispered.

Beast huffed. “No.”

“Should I tell Joker I’m gay?”

“If you want to,” Beast said, but he was already getting up when Knight declared he was going to murder someone. “Brother, we don’t want any more blood here, not so soon after Davy.”

As other people followed out of the room, Laurent would not stay behind, curiosity already getting the best of him. Nao was right behind him.

“This happens at least once a week with Jordan. I wish I’d made popcorn,” she said, and Laurent smiled back at the joke he didn’t understand, too happy about someone being friendly to him.

“That’s her name, right?”

Nao nodded, flinching slightly when Jordan and Knight started screaming at one another so loudly it could break glass. “If you want to know what I think, it would have been better for him if he stopped dating princesses.”

“I’m leaving! And I’m not coming back this time,” hissed Jordan, stomping away at an agonizingly slow pace because of her shoes.

“Babe, come on,” Knight said, following. “Tell me which one was a shit to you and I’ll deal with him.”

She stopped and crossed her arms on her ample chest, looking back at Knight. “The bald one. He wouldn’t give it a rest! I told them they can go. You guys need to hire a more professional crew.”

Beast squeezed his hands into fists. “Wait, wait, wait... you told them to what?”

Jordan spread her arms wide. “Yes. If they can’t be respectful, they need to go. Say something, honey!” she added, looking at Knight, as if this whole performance was only meant for his attention. And worst of all, it seemed to be working.

Knight looked around his friends in challenge. “Well, I’m not gonna have them disrespect my woman in our club!”

Joker groaned. “But we’re having Beast’s VP party in two fucking weeks! Someone has to mend that piece of roof!”

“Yeah, they’re the perfect balance of cheapish and decent quality. They did my parents’ house, and that worked out great,” Jake said, pushing himself to the front.

“She likely flirted back, too,” Nao whispered into Laurent’s ear.

Beast approached Knight and Jordan. “Come on, guys. It’s likely a misunderstanding.”

“He complimented the way I walk!” Jordan hissed. “Stop putting dumb ideas into my man’s head. This kind of stuff is not okay!”

Beast rubbed his face. “Knight. Please, we need those repairs done ASAP.”

Only now it occurred to Laurent that from what he was gathering, Knight likely wasn’t in love with Beast. The relief that thought caused was both pleasant and disconcerting.

Knight pulled Jordan under his arm, and she hugged him tightly. “All I can promise you is that I won’t go break his nose now, but I will not beg them to come back.”

“Deal. How about you and Jordan go out for drinks, huh?” Beast suggested, clearly just wanting his friend’s hysterical girlfriend out of his hair.

Jordan pouted, looking up into Knight’s handsome face. “I guess...”

Laurent leaned against a windowsill and looked outside where a group of large men were busy packing some bags into a tall car with no windows in the back. Now he knew why Beast was the ‘VP’. He seemed to take charge in all situations. If he was truly set on moving the club into a new place to stay, how could Laurent possibly stand in his way?
