But I push my hand against his chest. “I don’t think this is such a good idea.”

He blinks. “I’m so sorry. I should get going.” He steps away and opens the back door and flees like a bat out of hell.

What just happened?

Chapter 6

Harrison

You have such pretty hair? What the fuck was I thinking? No wonder she didn’t want me to kiss her. I’ve been out of the game too long, and to use a dumb line about pretty hair, well, I’m a bit embarrassed.

I get back to Mug Life and it’s like I never left. The music is still playing, people are packed inside, and laughter is filtering out the door. I run my fingers through my hair as I stare inside. If my dad were here, he would be behind that counter with a huge smile on his face. This is everything he ever wanted and I’ve achieved it for him.

That embarrassing moment back with February needs to be forgotten. She’s not interested and my focus shouldn’t be on kissing the competition. My focus needs to be winning and proving you don’t need to love coffee to have a successful coffee shop.

February loves coffee. She also clearly loves the color pink. Her shop was elegant, with a hint of classy sophistication. Even if it displayed every shade of pink known to man. Like fifty shades of pink with your coffee. Damn. The thought brings images of sex to my brain. What is wrong with me?

I close my eyes briefly as the embarrassing almost-kiss plays through my head. I’ve been cock-blocked before, but damn, that just gave me a case of serious blue balls. Getting kiss-blocked made me feel like a thirteen-year-old standing there with puckered lips and closed eyes, waiting for contact. But after a minute, opening my eyes and seeing I’m just being stared at by a bunch of laughing kids.

“Pull it together,” I whisper, pushing inside Mug Life.

“Where the hell did you slip off to?” Paxton asks, raising an eyebrow.

I cross my arms and give him a smug look. “Just had to check out my competition.”

He laughs and slaps my back. “My man.”

Yeah, if only he knew his man ran like a pussy.

“You went to Deja Brew?” Lennon asks with wide eyes. “Where’s Feb?”

Probably at the police station looking to get a restraining order on the asshole who tried to kiss her in the back of her shop.

“You mean before or after I found her spying again?”

Lennon says nothing and rushes toward the door. Paxton chuckles beside me and I turn to look at him.

“You always loved teasing women.”

I smirk, turning my attention back to the crowd. He couldn’t be more wrong.

“Bren, why is delivery taking so long? I thought the caramel matcha flavoring was supposed to be here today?”

She stops wiping down the counter and tucks her rag into her apron. “Didn’t you see the email? It’s been delayed. Should be here tomorrow.”

Of course. It’s like everything I attempt to do ends up with me hitting a brick wall.

“I’ll be back.”

I walk out of the shop and let the cold air hit me. I haven’t seen February since the other night when I obviously freaked her out. And for some reason, it’s consuming me. Not because I felt like an embarrassed kid, but because all I can think of is claiming her plump lips. Sinking my fingers into her soft hair and feeling her mouth against mine.

It’s keeping me up at night.

It’s monopolizing my thoughts.

It’s causing my dick to be in a constant state of arousal.

I scrub my face as I blow out a breath. “I need to take a walk.”

As I wander down Main Street, memories flood me.

When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike all around this town. As a teenager, I would cruise around with either a chick in the front seat or the football team packed into the tailgate of my truck.

The countless movies I’ve seen at the movie theater. The endless laughs I’ve had with friends. The handful of fights I had trying to prove how tough I was. Having my first drink, my first kiss. My first fist fight. The infinite number of family dinners we had at all the restaurants.

It’s like a flipbook of my life playing out before me as I continue walking.

Coming back to Magnolia Point wasn’t what I planned for, but being here reminds me of the good times and that makes me feel like I was meant to come home.

I glance up and realize I’ve walked right to Deja Brew. I peek in the window and see February laughing with a customer as she waits for her coffee. I can’t hear what they’re saying, but the way February’s eyes shine as her beautiful face lights up from her smile causes my pulse to race. Her dirty-blonde hair is pulled up in a ponytail, showing off her slender neck. My dick presses against my jeans as I imagine my hand around that delicate throat.
