“He’s still trying because he lives to annoy me. Yes, he’s still, to this very day, a pain in my ass.”

“I think it’s a unique brand of foreplay.”

“What?” I whip my head to face her and almost fall off my stool. I have to hold onto her arm, which makes her crack up laughing for some reason. I’m barely settled back in my seat when I feel a hand on my back. Not just any hand, but his hand. Don’t ask me how I know. It just is what it is.

“You okay, Charlie?”

“Oh, she’s fine as frog hair.” Adeline laughs. “Actually, Spence, I think you need to take her up to the suite. She’s had one too many, if you know what I mean.”

“What?” It seems to be the only word I can form at the present moment.

“Come on, Charlie.” Spencer’s voice is soft as he offers me his hand.

“I’m not leaving.” I glare at him, then turn my glare on Adeline. “You can’t stay down here by yourself.”

“I’m a big girl,” she counters.

“I’ll make sure she gets to her room.” Liam appears beside us.

“Liam can walk us.”

“I’m not ready to leave yet,” Adeline says, and I can see the determination in her eyes. She’s not coming with me, and the man standing next to me with his big hand on my back is stubborn enough not to leave until I do. He wants to torture me with his presence all the way back to our suite.

I glare at her, but she just grins, sipping her drink. Speaking of drinks, I grab mine from the bar and tilt it back, draining the glass. If I have to spend any amount of time with Spencer on my own, I’m going to need it.

Placing the empty glass back on the bar, I slide off the stool, only to wobble. I reach out to steady myself, and it’s Spencer's arm that I find for my balance. Damn, I didn’t think I drank that much. I know the guys had more than us, they all came up several times for rounds of beers and shots, and Decker delivered some as well. How is he standing straight? I almost ask him but decide I don’t really care. Just something else that Spencer Pennington seems to come out on top with.

I wonder if he shits gold and glitter, too, since his life seems to be full of it?

A deep chuckle pulls me out of my thoughts. “No gold or glitter, baby. I’m human, just like you.” He smiles down at me.

“I’m not your baby,” I slur.

“I’m taking her to the suite. I’ll see you guys later,” Spencer says. Then he turns to look at Liam. “You got Adeline?”

“Yeah, I’ll make sure she gets back safe.”

“How are you walking straight?” I ask Spencer as he guides me out of the bar.

He just chuckles as he pulls me a little closer, and we head to my suite that I’m sharing with the girls. We’re quiet on the walk, and I’m suddenly exhausted.

“You smell good,” I mumble.

“So do you,” he replies softly.

When we reach our door, I struggle to get my key out but finally manage to hold it up in the air. Spencer smiles down at me. Something not a lot of men do. I’m tall at five foot eight, but I feel tiny next to him.

“You going to be okay?” he asks. He tucks a stray piece of hair behind my ear.

“I’ll be fine.” I wave him off. I turn and attempt to insert the keycard into the door and have no luck.

“Let me.”

I don’t have time to move out of the way before he’s pressing his body next to mine. Reaching around me, he takes the keycard and unlocks the door.

“Call me if you need me.”

“I won’t need you.”

“Yeah, but if you do, promise you’ll call.”

“You’re going to be mad that you were nice to me when you wake up, and the haze of the alcohol is gone.” I point a finger at him. At least, I think I do. I might have pointed two. It’s all a little fuzzy.

“I’ll never regret you, Charlie,” he says softly. With his hand over mine, he pushes the door the rest of the way open and motions for me to head inside. I do, and to my surprise, he follows me.

“What are you doing?”

“You need to hydrate, and you need to take something for that hangover you’re bound to have in the morning.”

“I’m fine. And if I need to, so do you.”

He just grins, walks past me to the small kitchen, fills me a glass of water, and grabs the bottle of headache medicine that’s sitting on the counter, which I’m sure my sister or Lorelei left for their hangover maintenance before they went to bed.

“You need help getting to bed?” he asks.
