“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” Lucas growls rounding on me. His dark blue eyes glimmer with anger. “And you invited her to my bar.”

“Our bar,” I correct, fully knowing this isn’t the right time to sass my killer of a husband. “And, again, we have to talk to her to at least figure out if she’s going to try to kill me first.”

“Yes, Callie,” he deadpans. “Because she’s going to give you a clear and calm warning and give you until the count of ten before she tries to murder you.”

“Stranger things have happened.”

Eliza holds up her hands. “While I’ll be the first to admit it turns me on to watch you fight, this needs to stop.”

“She’s right,” I sigh, wanting nothing more than to go give Lucas a hug. Before I can make a move, all three vampires snap their attention to something I can’t here. Yet it can only be one thing.

Drea is here.

Chapter

Seventeen

“Punctual demons annoy me more than any other kid,” I grumble.

“This crosses into rude,” Eliza says. “The bar doesn’t open for nearly another hour.”

“What is your plan?” Eamon asks and Lucas looks at me pointedly. I get it. He’s mad. It makes my stomach hurt but I can’t deal with it right now. There is a literal demon presumably by the locked front door, wearing someone’s body like a second hand coat.

“Um…telekinesis and astral projection. Crap. Okay…hang on.” I go over to Lucas, looking into his beautiful eyes. “I love you,” I tell him, feeling my heart swell in my chest.

“And I love you,” he replies, cupping my face with one of his large hands. He kisses me and then takes Juliet. I shake out my hands, trying to separate my angel powers from my witch powers. Drea knows how to do the spell to repel angels. Having Juliet here is a huge risk. Heart hammering, I hold out my hands, close my eyes, and envision bright white light surrounding us.

“I call upon the fires of Hell and the light of Heaven. Surround this room and protect us all.” Through my closed eyes, I can see a beam of light rise from the floor. Eliza gasps and I drop my hands, remembering that raw energy like this burns vampires.

“What language was that?” Eamon asks.

“Enochian,” Lucas replies.

“I haven’t heard that in nearly two-thousand years,” he replies. “I’ve forgotten it all.”

“It’s the language of angels,” I say, turning to look at him. “You heard it?”

“I may have spent some time in the Middle East when something rather Christian was happening.”

“We are revisiting this,” I tell him, mind blown for some reason. I’m half angel for crying out loud, but to think Eamon could witness the origin of so many Christmas songs is hard to believe.

Lucas kisses Juliet on the top of he head and goes to hand her to Eliza.

“What are you doing?” I ask.

“You’re not going out there alone,” he tells me in a way that I know means there’s zero chance in arguing against him.

“If she casts the spell again—”

“I will rip her to shred,” Lucas interrupts.

“Take Juliet out of here.” I shake my head. “I’ll be fine.”

Lucas’s brow furrows and he knows there’s no arguing with me either. She’s my daughter; there is nothing I wouldn’t do to save her.

“Wait,” Eliza says as she gently takes her sister into her arms. Juliet starts to fuss and casting that sleep spell on her right now would be so wrong but I can’t be distracted, worrying about my baby when there’s a freaking demon in the room. “What about astral projection or whatever? You’re just going out there?”

“If Drea wanted to hurt me, she had several chances,” I say slowly, trying to convince myself that it’s true.

“I like that name,” Eliza notes.

“Right? Me too.” I playfully nudge Lucas in the side. “If we have a second kid, that name is on the list.”

He gives me blank stare and shakes his head back and forth. If there was a way for us to have another child, he would be all on it. I would be all for the trying part of getting pregnant again, but I didn’t enjoy actually being pregnant one freaking bit. Giving birth was awful too. I’ve been tortured, almost burned to death, drained of most my blood, and had my divinity ripped out yet giving birth was still the most painful thing I’ve ever gone through. I really don’t want to do it again.

“Let’s do this,” I say and Lucas and I go out of the office. We close the door behind us and I put up one more warding, specified at keeping curses away. Those types of wardings are far from fool proof. Curses are very specific and can get around lines of protection easily. Lucas stays back, acting like he needs to hid in the shadows like a vampire would.
