His orgasm built and Daniel opened his eyes to find those dark eyes on his, and as Edward watched, he came, the pleasure so intense that he cried out. He felt it in every part of his body as he shuddered and quaked underneath Edward.

Edward’s hips stuttered and he let out a hoarse moan. He rubbed his thumb over the tip of Daniel’s dick, then let go to grab his hip. He thrust harder into him, going deep and deeper. Another ragged sound spilled from his lips as he picked up his pace. He again lost his rhythm as every muscle in his big body went taut. A long, rumbling groan came out of him as he came into the condom inside Daniel’s body.

He lay there, panting in Daniel’s ear, his fingers flexing on his hip. “Damn,” he whispered, the word so low Daniel barely heard it even as close as he was. He got it. He understood that what they had just done had been something profound. Real feelings had threaded their way through their sex. Real, strong feelings. Daniel clasped the side of Edward’s head and turned his face to press a long, slow kiss to Edward’s lips.

When he pulled back, it was to find dark eyes locked on his. And he saw it—saw Edward’s reluctance to end this, too.

“You have to come visit me when this is all over,” Daniel said. “I don’t care if it’s not very often. I need to see you again. I’m not ready for this to end. For us to end.”

Edward nodded slowly. “I didn’t expect to find anything like this with my life the way it is.”

“So, you’ll come?”

“I don’t want you to put your life on hold waiting for me. I hate the thought of anyone else ever touching you, spending time with you. Getting smiles that should be mine. But I don’t want you to waste your life alone.”

“Edward…”

“I can’t make any promises, but I’ll try. Just don’t wait.”

“I suppose that’ll have to be enough.”

The air was cool on his sweaty body, but Edward was nothing but heat against his side as he tied off the condom and dropped it into the trashcan beside the bed, then settled in with an arm over his chest. One thick, hairy thigh was thrown over one of his. Daniel didn’t even care about the mess on his stomach; he didn’t want to move.

And he suddenly needed to know more about Edward. If this was their last night together, he wanted to know as much as he could about the man who’d claimed his heart. “Where did you grow up?”

Edward’s sigh was full of pleasure as he settled against Daniel. “Kansas.”

“Really? I would have thought somewhere on the east coast.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know.” Daniel chuckled. “I wasn’t expecting you to have something in common with Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz. Did you grow up in cornfields?”

“Nah, my family didn’t farm. We had a nice three-bedroom house in Topeka. They still live there. My sister is married and lives two streets over.”

“Does your family know what you do?”

“No,” Edward answered quietly. “They believe I’m a simple businessman who happens to travel most of his life. I get back to see them once or twice a year, but we haven’t been close in a long time.”

“What made you decide to be in the CIA?”

“Honestly? The excitement of traveling and doing what I could to help our country. My father was in the service and for a long time, I thought that was what I would do, too, but I wanted something different.” He tightened his leg and arm, pulling Daniel closer. He kissed his shoulder. “What made you decide to be an accountant?”

“Nothing too interesting. I like numbers. I’m good at them.”

“What was it like growing up with four sisters?”

It was Daniel’s turn to laugh. “Hectic, noisy, and full of drama. They’re all close in age, so my parents had four teenage girls all at once. I’m pretty sure they barely slept for years when my sisters started dating.”

“Where do they live now?”

“In Ohio and Kentucky. All of us stayed pretty close to home. I was gone a few years while in the FBI, but I went back to be near them.” He lay there, enjoying the warmth of Edward beside him and had to ask. “What would you do if you left the CIA?”

Edward was silent a few long moments. “I haven’t thought much about that. Even when I stop traveling, I could take an office position. I suppose that’s the eventual plan.”

Daniel wondered if there were places in Ohio and knew he’d be looking that up. But having Edward full-time was nothing but a pipe dream. His heart knocked in his chest because giving this man up permanently was going to hurt. He had no illusions that Edward would really come to visit him. Even with this connection they both seemed to feel, the man would be off on some new assignment, and his brief stint with an accountant would fast become nothing but a memory. He took a deep breath and held it, wondering how long he’d be living with a broken heart.
