She didn’t cave into his bullshit quite so easily. She questioned everything, and even though she might look it, she was anything but naive. Elsie was the only woman who wouldn’t take any of his shit. She didn’t allow him to treat her with anything but respect.

Dating her had been a surreal experience. He was used to women wanting his money, begging for his dick. Elsie didn’t. Their dates were … conservative.

She didn’t want to know about his money or his wealth. She was the first woman to want to talk about him, the man, nothing else. Work was work. He watched her be like this with everyone. She was more interested in people than in what they did.

His brother had been surprised by her. She wouldn’t accept any of his lavish gifts. In fact, on one date, she brought the diamond bracelet he’d sent her and gave it back to him, as it made her uncomfortable.

Women lapped up his wealth and relished his power. They were only interested in what he could give them. And he had gotten used to it.

Elsie was nothing like that. And he fucking loved her for it.

Chapter Two

The moment the fog lifted from her, Elsie knew exactly what had happened. She also recognized where he’d taken her. This was his private cabin. He had brought her here for their honeymoon. He’d wanted to be close for his brother but have the privacy, and there was no one around for miles.

He always made sure they were fully stocked with food, and there was no reason for them to leave.

Elsie had loved their honeymoon and for days, they had not worn clothes but stayed completely naked.

Sitting up in the bed, she looked down at her hands and feet, and was surprised to not see herself shackled to the bed.

“What did you expect?”

She looked up to find Massimo standing in the doorway, arms folded across his wide chest.

“Chains.”

He smiled. “I can still do that if you like. I know how you like to be pinned down.”

She swung her feet off the side of the bed and gripped the edge. There was no way she was going to react to his teasing. Of course she liked it when he was in control. Who wouldn’t? Massimo was a master and an expert lover, and she had no complaints about their time in the bedroom even on the night he’d taken her virginity. There had been pain but he had made it so slight, there was no point even being upset by it. He’d made it a magical night. He’d been so patient, so loving, so everything.

“I don’t find any of this funny. Now, let me go.”

“No,” Massimo said.

She took a deep breath. “You can’t do this.”

“Actually, as your husband, I can, and I will. Trust me, no one is going to stop me.”

Elsie stared at him and waited, and knew it was pointless. There was no point in calling the cops. Besides, there was no landline at his cabin, and he would be the only person in possession of a phone. Also, there was the fact that the cops were in Massimo’s pocket, and no one was coming to help her.

“So I’m trapped here. I’m your captive. You kidnapped me.”

“You and Romero have the same viewpoint.”

“Your brother was here?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“And he didn’t advise you to stop?”

“He … doesn’t understand our relationship.”

“We don’t have a relationship.” She was about to pass him but he suddenly caught her around the waist, and she started to struggle. It was hard to do because her body was a traitor. She had fallen in love with Massimo so hard and fast, all she wanted to do was cave into him. It was like her body didn’t feel the betrayal.

He was so close and she stared up into his gorgeous blue eyes. His eyes had hypnotized her from the start. They made her think of the ocean. Until she met him, she’d never been to the beach. He’d been the first one to take her there. He promised to take her to many places, even those she didn’t even know about.

“Are you sure about that?” he asked, and then his lips pressed down on hers, and at first she couldn’t bring herself to push him away. She craved his lips, wanted them on her own. He felt so good, and like so many times before, her body sang to his tune.

“He doesn’t want you. You’re a passing fancy, but when I’m pregnant with his child, you will be nothing more than a joke.” Isabella’s cruel words came back to haunt her and she pulled out of his arms. She had no reason to believe he would cheat on her and yet, every reason to believe it. Isabella was a beautiful woman. She could have any man and she set her sights on Massimo. Elsie knew there was no chance of competing with her. She came from nothing. She was nothing.
