“I do.” I reached out and latched onto his arm. “We have to go upstairs now, Steve.”

“Of course.” Steve leaned his elbows on the counter and let out a bored sigh. “If you see a cute fireman wandering around up there, tell him I’m down here all by my lonesome with nothing to do.”

Once we were on the elevator, I moved in front of Jamie and leered down at him. “We’re almost home again. Have you missed it?”

“More than I want to admit. Who could have imagined that a summer job would turn into… this?”

“This,” I repeated. “You know, Steve just got me thinking with that comment about seeing more of you after graduation. We haven’t really discussed what we’re going to do.”

“What do you want to do?” he asked uncertainly, not meeting my gaze.

“I want you to pack all of your shit in the Range Rover and drive up here. Then I want you to park it in one of the two parking spaces designated for this apartment. I’ll help you bring your things up, and we’ll put them in the drawers and the closet in the master bedroom. Then we’ll just live. How does that sound?”

He laughed as the elevator came to a stop, and the doors slid open. “So you’ve only worked out the plan for one day?”

“Do we need more?” I used my key card to open the door to my apartment, and we stepped inside. “Actually, I do have one more day planned. Because we’re going to have to go visit your family at some point in the future, and I’m not going to sleep in separate beds, so that means we’ll have to get married. That takes care of another day.”

He laughed even harder this time. “Was that meant to be a proposal or something? Because I was under the impression that you were supposed to get down on one knee.”

I started pinging the buttons of his dress shirt, making quick work of the top five and then ripping both the shirt and undershirt over his head in one smooth move. “I’m not that romantic,” I pointed out. “And you’re the only one who’s getting on your knees.”

“You are so fucking cocky. Why don’t you get on your knees?”

“Hmmm. No. I want you completely naked on your knees. Now get stripping.”

He did exactly what I told him to, because he got off on it just like I did. “Make me,” he’d said when we were sitting in Atlanta traffic and I’d told him to suck my dick. And that’s exactly what he wanted. Every time I got forceful with him, his eyes would go all soft and wanting, like they were just pleading with me to make him.

“Now get on your knees.” He dropped to his knees in the middle of the living room floor, and I unzipped my fly. I liked this dynamic. Him naked and vulnerable while I was fully dressed and looking down at him. It turned me on not because I enjoyed bullying him into submission, but because he was mine, and he wanted to please me.

Just then a knock sounded on my door, and I wanted to hurt whoever was on the other side. Jamie was beautiful and needy on his knees, and my cock was already out. Fuck. But no one ever knocked on my door.

“Get over there,” I hissed, pointing at the sofa. “Grab the blanket and cover yourself.” I stuffed my dick back into my pants with an annoyed growl and answered the door.

“Santori,” I gasped. “What are you doing here.”

“I need to speak to you now, Michael.” He glanced over my shoulder at Jamie, who was huddled under the blanket on the sofa. “In my apartment.”

“I’ll be right back, baby,” I told Jamie before I followed Santori down the hall to his apartment.

The man didn’t waste any time getting down to business. “Do you have any idea what kind of a spectacle you made of yourself at that event tonight?” he demanded. “Why did you have to bring him along? If you absolutely must have him, at least keep him hidden away. For heaven’s sake, do you have no sense at all of self-preservation?”

I sighed, so damn weary of this same argument I kept having to go through, it seemed with every-fucking-body on the planet.

“God, why can’t people just mind their own damn business?” I shouted. “Why does anybody care who I’m sleeping with? I don’t want Vanessa. I don’t want a woman. I don’t even want another man. I want Jamie, and that’s not going to change. It has nothing to do with whether or not I can fight. I can beat anybody, and I’m going to beat everybody in the UFC. I’m going to tear the fucking house down over there. By the time I’m through with them, there won’t be a single one of them who will dare step into the octagon with me. So why does it matter if I’m in love with a man?”
