“It doesn’t worry you when he doesn’t call for a whole day?” Braden asked one night when we were watching TV together.

I shrugged. “Not really. Sometimes I don’t contact him, either. We don’t have to be up each other’s ass all the time.”

“That’s weird,” he said. “If I don’t call or text Miranda for a few hours, she’s wondering if I’m cheating on her. But I guess I’m the same way. You guys don’t get jealous?”

“Actually, we do.” I laughed, thinking of some of our more ridiculous jealous moments. “But breaks in communication hasn’t been much of an issue. When I first started working for him, he’d disappear for days. No contact whatsoever. Then when he’d show back up, I was just glad to see him.”

“Sounds like he got you trained from the beginning.”

I laughed. “Maybe. He was gone a lot when we were in Vegas after he got his UFC contract. Most of it was promotion. Some of it was shit his PR people made him do, like being seen on dates with Vanessa Hale.”

“Damn.” Braden shook his head. “That had to be a mind fuck.”

“Yeah, it was. You remember how I got when I saw that picture on the magazine in the grocery store. I was seriously messed up about that. But we’ve worked things out since then. There’s a lot of stuff you don’t know, and I’m not at liberty to tell you. Just understand that Kage’s life is complicated, and now my life is complicated because of him. The rules don’t really apply anymore.”

“But what a trade-off. That’s a hell of a ride you’ve got out there in the driveway. No telling what else he’ll end up getting you.”

“Not to mention the sex. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I’m hot for him all the time. He’s turned me into a total horn dog.”

“I don’t need to hear shit like that, Jamie,” Braden teased.

I bit my lip, considering how honest I should be with him. Not because I thought he’d run his mouth, but because some of the things I wanted to say made me feel like a lovestruck fool. But then this was Braden, the guy who had just admitted he couldn’t go without talking to his girlfriend for a few hours. I decided to confide in him, because I needed to talk to someone. Joy was eating me alive from the inside out.

“Don’t laugh, but I think Kage wants to marry me. He and my dad had the talk when we went to visit them.”

“Really?” Braden looked like he wasn’t sure whether to celebrate or not. “That’s… well, that’s just weird to me, bro. No offense, but it’s hard for me to relate. I haven’t even talked to Miranda about marriage, and we’ve been together for longer than you guys have. Do you want to get married?”

“Yes.” I’d planned on being nonchalant about it, but there was no way. I grabbed a throw pillow and covered my face to hide the blush and the stupid grin that wouldn’t stop. “I’m so in love it’s sick.”

“Oh, God,” Braden groaned. “You sound like a princess who’s found her prince.”

That knocked the grin right off of my face. I dropped the pillow and scowled at my roommate. “I’m not a girl, Braden. I’m a prince. A prince who has found his king.”

Braden narrowed his eyes in thought. “But wouldn’t that make him your daddy?”

His words brought yet another blush to my cheeks as I remembered the exchange in the kitchen when Kage stripped off his shirt and asked if he could be my daddy. I didn’t even bother answering Braden’s question. I told him goodnight and went straight to my room. Then without even turning the light on, I fell into bed and jerked off to thoughts of Kage fucking me on a bejeweled throne. And everywhere else I could think of.

The next day, I was mortified when my landlord approached me just as I got home from class.

“Mr. Atwood, can I have a minute?”

“Yes, sir.”

He looked uncomfortable, which made me nervous. “There’s just no delicate way to put this. A man paid a visit to me this morning and asked me to suggest to you that you keep your bedroom blinds closed. He said he could see every move you made.”

“Oh.” Heat rose to my cheeks. “Yes, sir, I’ll definitely do that. Do you remember what he looked like?”

“Not really,” he admitted. “Just some guy in a suit.”

I went inside and closed the door behind me. Then I hurried to my room and shut the blinds. I was embarrassed as hell, but worse than that, I was afraid. I knew it wasn’t just anybody who had visited my landlord with such a strange request. It had to be the same person who had sent me the video. I was convinced more than ever that someone was trying to warn me that I was being watched.
