Then, as I lay there recovering, my pants still shoved down around my knees, Kage turned and started walking toward the side of the house. Toward the front yard, where headlights illuminated the road out front, and a car horn blared again.
As I watched him walk away, I realized he was actually leaving. That his cab was here, and he was going to leave. Just like that, without a word to me, and without looking back.
He rounded the front corner of the house and whistled at the cab, lifting his hand to get the driver’s attention. That’s when it became real and the tears started to well up in my eyes.
