Dev came toward him, meeting Cash in the doorway. Tension rolled from him in palpable waves. “I’ve never signed anything if that’s what you’re askin’. As for my taxes, I don’t pay attention. None of us do. So maybe I don’t officially own my ink parlor? Maybe I’m bein’ used all the way around?”

“I don’t know.” Cash refused to speculate, even with the depth of uncertainty swirling in Dev’s blue eyes.

Laundered money was harder to trace to its original illegal source. It was accounted for in the system…

But who was responsible?

Could be how the feds knew money was missing. An undercover agent might have reported the discrepancy. What if no one in the club had any idea of what was happening with their accounting?

What if Dev knew more than he was letting on?

It was honestly their shared history…

Cash stopped the wayward thoughts right there.

He had to find patience. Let this play out the way it was supposed to.

“Whatever you’re thinkin’ needs to stop until we know more,” Dev murmured and crossed his arms over his chest, casually leaning a shoulder against the doorframe.

Cash nodded and pivoted back on his heel to head toward Joe.

Excitement bubbled as his mind raced. Something told him this was the beginning of the end. He didn’t understand it yet, but he would.

Chapter 20

The gentle vibration of Dev’s alarm made his eyelids flutter open. His dark bedroom was made darker by the blackout window shades and complete lack of electronic anything. Well, except for his cell phone placed strategically underneath his black pillowcase. He stifled a yawn, silenced the phone, and let his sleep-hazed mind listen to Cash’s heavy, even breath. It was really more a snore that was unique to his agent that didn’t bother Dev in the least.

In the quiet recesses of his brain, he acknowledged how much he enjoyed having a live-in boyfriend. Cash staved off the loneliness Dev hadn’t even realized he had inside his heart.

Cash was better than the magic man in the sky at stamping out all the confusion and pain of the past. The right versus wrong he battled with his whole damn life.

Whatever breakthrough they had tonight seemed to settle Cash. The dreams that had plagued his agent for the last few weeks appeared to be gone. At least if Cash woke abruptly in the middle of the night, he did it without waking Dev.

For Dev though, he had questions. Why had Fox always told him he was second?

Was there any chance his old man didn’t realize Dev wouldn’t be the successor? That it wasn’t stated in the club’s bylaws?

Nah. Probably not. His old man’s ego was the size of Texas. He’d want his blood to carry on… But that blood was located in Dev’s body so one argument canceled out the other.

Stop fucking thinking about anything more than Cash. There was still a very strong chance he wasn’t going to survive turning narc.

It didn’t matter what his old man planned, Cash had him so protected that fucking Trace still wanted to watch him wipe his ass…

He rolled until he moved up against the sexy hard body next to him. What was up with his obsession with this muscled guy? He couldn’t get enough. It wasn’t only sex. Hell, the sex played such a small part in the relationship they’d built.

He built?

No, they built.

No, Cash built.

Cash was the steadier one between them. They wouldn’t be here without him pushing for the relationship, all the damn time.

Even with his lids closed, he rolled his eyes. He’d rather think about his old man than consider what a shit he’d been to Cash and their relationship.

He breathed in and out as his hand lightly skimmed over Cash’s pec. The one thing that hadn’t changed since the beginning was how they slept. Side by side. Him on his belly, sometimes on his side, facing Cash who slept on his back. They held hands if palm against palm were considered a hand hold. They did that shit even while asleep.

He reached underneath the pillow, checked the time on his phone and canceled the second alarm. It was five forty-five in the morning. Who voluntarily woke at this time of day?

This used to be bed time.

Domesticated people slept during the night hours. This was definitely a Cash-induced alarm. In the best version of his life, he had never seen himself setting a five forty-five in the morning alarm.

But good morning sex was better than coffee and a donut to start the day.

What he also liked to do was listen to the man breathe, or eat, or talk about nothing. Cash gave those perfected, all-encompassing warm bear hugs... He loved that shit.

Cash hadn’t lied when he said he liked to cook, and boy, did he like his vegan food. His guy also worked out every day. Dev couldn’t even wrap his head around lifting weights over and over. No way his head could handle the repetition.
