“What’s that?” Cash asked, nodding to the envelope.

“The bylaws you asked me to get. Man, you apparently had me risk my life though. Trace called in the reinforcements. A rookie mistake, I guess. He’ll learn.” Dev started a serious massage at his shoulders, his fingers digging into the hard muscle. “That other dude that rolled up on me might be hotter than Trace and his dad.” Dev’s thumbs felt damn good, so he leaned into the pressure.

“Trace’s uncle, I believe,” Cash said and closed his eyes, giving in to the delicious manipulation happening at his neck.

“They pull off that grungy, artsy, hot-as-fuck image I wish I had,” Dev said.

“Yeah, you pull it off just fine too,” Cash murmured and nodded toward the flat envelope Dev dropped on his desk. “This small thing is the bylaws the club lives by? What is it, a page long?”

“Why weren’t you lookin’ at me when I came in?” Dev asked as Cash reached for the envelope to pull out the document. He ignored Dev’s question. Not wanting anyone to know the complexity of his jealousy. It embarrassed him and felt controlling, both dysfunctional emotions he didn’t need in his life.

“This is eight pages,” Cash said, flipping each page over. The document was single-sided and looked typed by a typewriter, double spaced. The white pages were yellowing from age, not from use.

“Surprise to me too,” Dev murmured as his fingers trailed up to Cash’s hair. He hadn’t anticipated Dev’s next move when he pushed his hand forward, messing up the way Cash preferred to wear his hair. He quickly moved his head but not before the damage was done.

“You’re all dressed up so pretty. I’m gonna pretend it’s for me.” Dev’s warm breath tickled against Cash’s ear. He’d told himself this morning when he dressed that he was going back to business as usual. That the times of playing around and not working properly as an agent was coming to an end. Maybe he’d hoped Dev liked what he saw.

“Where’s the rest of the document?” Cash asked. Dev’s palms were back on his shoulders, the firm massage returning. The methodic rhythm of Dev’s skilled hands had the world slipping away. He’d been on the receiving end of Dev’s massage a couple of times. Generally, he was nude which always led to sex. He never minded.

“Look at me,” Dev said quietly.

He didn’t want to meet Dev’s stare, casting a quick look over his shoulder. Dev took the option away from him, using his finger to hook under his chin, forcing his face up. Cash blinked before meeting Dev’s intense stare.

“That’s better. You’re mad at me. I should’ve been more observant when I was comin’ out of the shop’s office. I wasn’t tryin’ to…”

With a forced adjustment out of Dev’s hold, Cash turned away.

Should he let Dev believe that was the problem?

It made sense. All he’d have to do was stay silent.

He fisted his hands. Of course he couldn’t let Dev of all people take the blame. What happened this afternoon was a timing issue. Natural. Normal.

Augh.

“There’s no way you could’ve known about your father showing up. Trace did the right thing by sounding the alarm. It’s why he’s good for the job,” Cash placed the club’s bylaws back on the table. “Where’s Trace now? How’d he do today?”

“A micromanager, but good enough, I guess. He’s exhausted, probably already passed out. Big first day.” Dev’s hand came forward and mussed the style of his hair a second time before he reached down to caress Cash’s cheek, turning him back. Dev bent over to better look in Cash’s eyes. “I never fully recovered from bein’ pissed off today because I’m watched so closely.”

“I used to watch you closely,” Cash answered as if that was the craziest thought. And it was.

“Yeah, but I want you watchin’ me. I’ve wanted you watchin’ me since we shook hands on the stairs that first day. So, there’s a difference,” Dev explained as his palm caressed a trail down Cash’s chest. Dev leaned in to place a simple kiss on his cheek. Then reached for Cash’s hand, urging him to his feet. “Nobody’s ever tamed me like you do. You make me wanna learn how to be normal.”

“Yeah right,” Cash said, chuckling at the absurdity of Dev wanting to be anything more than the Devilman.

“It’s true. Can you imagine what I was like before you got a hold of me?”

“Actually, I can. Your rap sheet…”

Dev pressed his fingers against Cash’s lips, stopping him from saying more.

“I have some makin’ up to do. I passed out on you last night. And I ignored you before that. I can’t ever get you out of my fuckin’ head, not for even a goddamn minute. Just you, on a loop in my thoughts, all fuckin’ day. I figure you need to know.”
