“You’re fuckin’ cheatin’ on me? On me?” she yelled, drawing her hand down the length of her body. She dressed like a cheap slut. It didn’t take much to understand her meaning.

“Daphne,” Diesel said to the Tasmanian devil beginning to spin out of control before him, “I didn’t mean for it to happen.”

She screamed a guttural, screeching sound inches from Diesel’s face. He watched the glass on the back wall, waiting for it to crack as Daphne dropped down in a ball on her strappy high-heeled covered feet, wrapping her arms around her knees. She was trembling as she darted up, yelling another wrenching sound, again directly in Diesel’s face. A pretty impressive impromptu fit that caused Dev’s brows to rise. He hadn’t seen the overly crazy side of Daphne before.

“With Shanna fuckin’ Fox. You choose her over me? She’s a fuckin’ freak. Nobody likes her. She’s borin’.” Daphne let go of yet another scream, giving Tena a rival in the batshit department.

He had to give it to the brother, Diesel looked distraught as hell.

During all the planning they had done for this moment, Diesel had confessed he was only watching out for Daphne. They’d never had a true relationship. It was hard on Diesel to think of throwing her into the whore pool being so young and innocent.

Didn’t look too innocent right now.

Daphne spun around and yelled a string of foul language to the room before storming toward Dev, her finger pointing at him. “You’re a fuckin’ pussy too.”

Without any sort of pre-thinking or plan, Dev reached out, grabbing Daphne’s bicep, bringing her to a jerking stop. He could fix this problem before he quit. “I’m officially relievin’ you and Dixie from club duties effective immediately.”

“Fuck you,” Daphne said, tearing her arm away from his hold.

“Go, Daphne. Go find a good life,” Dev said. “You’re not welcome back here.”

“My mom got a fuckin’ attorney. We’re gettin’ her part,” Daphne screamed, circling back around, coming inches from his body. When she crossed her arms over her chest, she bumped his, her stance in straight-up bitch mode. She was looking for a physical altercation. Again, Tena’s usual attitude.

“Good luck with that,” Dev barked with a harsh laugh, not taking her bait. “My old man didn’t have shit. Everything we all own’s in the club’s name. Take his Harley. It’s all he had in his name.” He spoke as if she was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever had to deal with in his life, and dismissed her, walking away.

He didn’t need to do anything more to gather the brothers’ attention. He had that, in spades. What he didn’t expect was Daphne’s attack from behind. She charged him, kicking and screaming. The prospects at the door were on it. He barely got a hold of her before she was locked in the arms of two prospects, being dragged out.

“I fuckin’ hate you,” she shrieked.

“You’re never allowed back in this clubhouse again.” Dev pushed his hair off his face and righted his cut. “Every person who mans that fuckin’ door needs to keep her and her mom outta here.”

Dev pivoted back around and tossed a finger toward the meeting room. “Church.”

The crazy scene left Diesel crestfallen.

Dev grabbed his second’s cut and dragged him from behind into the meeting room. “It’s for the better.”

Diesel didn’t look convinced but allowed Dev to push him inside the room with a shove toward his seat. Dev went to his place at the head of the table in full understanding that this was the end. The last time he’d be inside the sacred room. As he’d come to expect in all these final moments, he felt nothing more than overwhelming relief even as he logged every part of the room into his memory.

After a few seconds of glancing around, taking it all in, and while the brothers took their seats, Dev palmed his phone to go over the prepared statement he was told to give. Instead, he saw a text message from Keyes and bypassed everything to read his buddy’s message.

“Life’s better on the outside, brother. You got this. Come toward the light. I’m waiting for you.”

Dev grinned. Keyes texting was getting much better. He glanced up at all the silence. All eyes were on him. Right, he was there for a reason. He went back to his phone’s messaging app, to read the government’s statement, the one he’d read out loud as they intended.

“Diesel, start the meetin’,” he said absently.

As he read the statement to himself, he gnawed at his bottom lip. He’d gotten two lines in before the bullshit rang to his core. There were lots of words that went round and round and meant nothing.

This wasn’t right.

His brothers were never going to believe this bullshit.

These men needed something more believable in order to refrain from the violence and vengeance they were ready to enact on behalf of his father. If he didn’t give them something, people would die who didn’t deserve death.
