“Friends don’t get markers. I’ll be in touch. Say hello to your girl.”

“Yeah.” If only she was his girl for good.

They said goodbye and Zach disconnected the call.

“Everything okay?” Hadley stood before him in jean shorts cut high around her thighs, his T-shirt tied in a knot around her waist, her hair pulled up in a messy bun and no makeup. She was comfortable with herself and that was as sexy as everything else about her.

She sat down on the chair beside him, a cup of coffee in her hand.

“I didn’t hear you come outside. Yeah. Everything is fine.” He wasn’t going to keep anything from her. “I asked Remy to go to your hometown and see if he can find your dad and see what he’s gotten himself into.”

Her eyes opened wide. “Really? Thank you.” She inhaled deeply and met his gaze. “I spent my entire life protecting Dani and I can’t let anything happen to her now.”

“Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’ve been working on figuring out who your father’s associates are since you showed up at the bar. I waited awhile before asking Remy to go because you left a hot situation and I wanted to give things a chance to settle.”

She nodded. “Will Remy be okay?”

“He knows how to handle himself and get answers.” Zach didn’t mention the FBI friend. Whatever information they ultimately found, he’d share with her then.

“Oh! Thanks for cleaning the kitchen.” She set her mug on the table, rose, stepped in front of him and crawled into his lap. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you but I’m so grateful.”

He held her close, burying his nose in her neck and rubbing up and down, inhaling her arousing floral scent.

“Are you sniffing me?” she asked, laughing.

He chuckled but it was no joke. “Whatever that scent is, it makes me fucking hard.”

“Yes, it does,” she murmured, rocking herself over his erection. “It’s sweet pea body wash and shampoo. It’s got pear, raspberry, some musk…”

“You. It smells like you.” He groaned and licked her neck, causing her to tremble.

He wanted nothing more than to strip off her shorts and panties and bury himself deep inside her wet pussy. As he reached for the button at her waist, his cell rang on the table.

“Ignore it,” he muttered, flicking open the button and pulling down her zipper.

The ringing stopped, thank God.

“Lift your hips.”

She pushed herself up and he wriggled her shorts down her legs. And his phone began ringing again. “Get it. It must be important,” she said, re-settling herself in his lap but now he felt the wet heat of her panties.

He picked up the cell and glanced at the screen, seeing Raven’s number, before answering the call on a growl. “It better be important if you aren’t calling Remy.”

“Sorry, boss. You’re going to want to know. That car you told me to keep an eye on?”

Immediately on alert, he stiffened. “What about it?”

“It was impounded overnight.”

“They fucking towed it?”

Hadley stiffened. “My car?” she whispered.

He nodded.

“Noo. I can’t afford those fees.” He squeezed her waist in reassurance.

“I know you told everyone not to report the car as illegally parked,” Raven was saying. “But I went home sick and… well… I didn’t think to let one of the guys who’d been on vacation know and he called the towing company. He said he was trying to help but he was just trying to kiss your ass since he left us shorthanded for a week longer than planned. Sorry. If there’s anything I can do…”

“Raven, chill. It’s fine. Thanks for letting me know. Are you feeling better?” No matter how much of a hassle this happened to be for Hadley, he liked Raven and had been a dick when he’d answered her call.

“Yeah, thank you. Just one of those things.” She didn’t elaborate and he didn’t ask. He wouldn’t have made her manager if he didn’t know she did a damn good job and only took off when necessary.

“Good. Favor?” he asked.

“Of course.”

He shifted Hadley in his lap. Though he was on the phone, his dick was still half-hard and he wasn’t comfortable. “Call Dario down at the impound lot. Ask him not to return the car and to park it somewhere locked up and safe. I’ll pay the tow fee but remind him he owes me and not to charge the daily rate.”

He winked at Hadley in an attempt to calm her down. If he’d had a view of her brain, he knew he’d see the ever-working calculator adding what she owed.

“You got it, boss. On it right now. Bye.”

Zach disconnected the call and put the phone back on the table.

Hadley shook her head. “Seriously? I can not even afford the tow fee.”

She’d been working her ass off at the bar in the evenings and though she’d finished tutoring Maddox’s brother and he’d more than passed his test, word had gotten around. Hadley had a few more students she was tutoring during various times of the day, but she wasn’t making much. And she couldn’t access her bank account without alerting anyone to her location.
