Her words freed his restraint and he began to move, thrusting in and out, each drive into her harder than the last. She loved how he didn’t hold back. Her body began to awaken after the last orgasm and she began the climb toward ecstasy once more.

“More,” she insisted, curling her fingers into the skin on his shoulders. If she was going to have his marks, she intended to leave some of her own.

His golden-brown eyes blazed with desire and he complied. Soon they had a rhythm of their own. He fucked her hard and yet when she let herself look into his eyes and take in his expression, though taut, in that moment, he was completely hers.

And that scared her.

But when he slid a hand between them, gliding his fingertip over her slick folds and settling the pad over her clit, she arched her back and began to soar.

“Oh God. Remy, I’m coming.” She screamed then, barely aware of him releasing himself at the same time but somehow knowing they came together.

No sooner had Remy pulled out of Raven, gone to the bathroom to take care of the condom, and returned to clean her up, she’d fallen fast asleep. Remy wasn’t normally a cuddler with the women in his past, but he liked having Raven’s head on his chest, her body splayed half across his.

As he listened to her breathing, he would have liked to sleep too, but his mind whirred with the information she’d given him about her brother. That son of a bitch had tortured and tormented her for years as a child, then did the unspeakable as an adult. He’d failed with Raven but succeeded with her friend, leaving Raven with scars of guilt and trauma. Though Remy knew nothing about Lance Kane, he’d arrested men like him, and Remy was sure the bastard intended to finish what he’d started years ago.

Which meant Remy needed to dig into the man and be ahead of his next move. He carefully slid Raven’s head onto the pillow and moved away, stilling as she moaned and shifted, as if aware he’d left her. Or so he’d like to think.

He now knew some of Raven’s past but sensed there was even more she hadn’t shared. They needed time and he intended to make sure she was alive and safe in order to figure out what could be between them.

He rose and pulled on a pair of sweats, then made his way to his office and turned on his computer. He’d been a tech geek in high school and met Zach at Columbia, where they’d bonded over coding and hacking. Zach had been looking for his high school girlfriend whose entire family had disappeared overnight, while Remy had been seeking a way to avoid thinking about his mother’s death. Or how things could have been different had he been home the night she died.

Unfortunately, they’d been caught hacking into a federal database while looking for Zach’s ex-girlfriend, and in exchange for no charges being filed, they’d been hired by the federal government to test systems and prevent other hackers from accomplishing what they nearly had.

The deal they made with the feds meant he was able to continue on his career path in law enforcement. Otherwise, he would have been kicked out of school and worse, served time. That career path was important to him because he’d hoped it would allow him to catch criminals like the dirtbag who’d blamed Remy’s father for his stock market losses and killed his wife in retribution.

He blinked, realizing that while he’d been thinking about the past, his fingers had been flying over the keyboard, digging into information on Raven’s brother. Though he’d normally pull Zach in on a deep dive like this, his friend was on his honeymoon with his new wife, and Remy wouldn’t disturb him.

Instead, he sent a few emails to friends in the right places. Now he needed to wait. It didn’t take long for his mail to ding and a reply to come through. He hadn’t expected Sean Andrews, his friend in the FBI who’d recently helped out Hadley, to be awake but he’d gotten lucky.

Remy opened the email and stared at the battered and bruised photos of Emily Devlin, taken in the hospital as evidence against Lance.

One look at the pictures and Remy’s protective instincts kicked into high gear. No way would this son of a bitch lay a finger on Raven. Not while he was around.

“Knock knock.”

Raven’s voice startled him but he immediately clicked out of the mail program and hit the off button, shutting the computer down.

“I’m sorry I passed out on you,” she said in a sleep-roughened, husky voice.

He shook his head. “It’s fine. I wore you out.” He winked, enjoying the flush that rose to her cheeks. “I couldn’t sleep so I caught up on some work.”
