A relationship that had ended well over a year ago, and Georgia had no intention of admitting her sister was right.
“Your silence says it all,” Courtney teased as she cut into her own tender filet. “You know, an orgasm with a real live dick would do you good. Your birthday is coming up in a few weeks. You should let your hair down, literally and figuratively, and treat yourself.”
Georgia caught herself before she reached up to touch her upswept hair, then shook her head. “You are such a brat.”
Courtney grinned. “And that’s why I have the most fun.”
Her sister wasn’t wrong. The good girl/bad girl stereotype between them was real.
Chapter Two
Over the next hour, Georgia finished eating dinner, sat through the awards ceremony, then the band began playing slow dancing music. Courtney slipped away to the bar to get a drink, their parents headed out to the dance floor, and Georgia quickly excused herself to use the ladies’ room—before Elliott could wrangle her into joining them.
The last thing she wanted was to be trapped against him, her body pressed against his, and his hands wandering inappropriately.
After using the restroom and washing her hands, Georgia sat down in a comfortable chair in the lounge, buying herself time so she didn’t have to deal with Elliott. She scrolled through social media—because she’d never be so daring as to have a Tinder account like her sister—then finally headed back to the ballroom.
The lights were dim, but she saw Elliott talking with a few other men and quickly headed in the opposite direction. The dessert table beckoned, and she walked over to the enticing selections. She picked up a small plate and perused the items on display, selecting two chocolate-covered strawberries. They were her favorite and she couldn’t wait to taste them.
Picking up the bigger one of the two, she bit into the bottom, realizing too late they’d been injected with sweetened syrup. The berry was so plump and juicy that she had to suck on the fruit to catch it all with an unladylike slurp. Despite decorum, a little moan escaped her as she swallowed the abundance of nectar.
“I have to say, I’ve never been so envious of a strawberry before,” a deep, sexy, masculine voice said from behind her.
Oh my God. She quickly pulled the fruit from her mouth and turned, flustered to find her admirer standing there grinning. Not only had he obviously seen and heard her display, but juice trickled at the corner of her mouth, adding to her mortification. With her plate in one hand and the strawberry in the other, she tried in vain to lick the sticky sweetness away.
“Here, let me help,” he offered and reached out, skimming his thumb along her bottom lip to wipe away the juice. Then, holding her gaze, he brought his finger to his mouth and sucked off the taste, a naughty gleam in his light green eyes.
“Mmm.” The low, rumbling sound he made was like an illicit caress in all her intimate spots. “So much sweeter than I thought.”
Me or the strawberry, she wondered, and expelled a rush of breath as her cheeks heated.
The fire in his gaze answered her unspoken question. He was everything she wasn’t used to in a man—bold and daring in a room full of people and she couldn’t help but be drawn to everything about him.
“Well, that was embarrassing,” she managed to mutter, looking away as she set her plate of strawberries on a side table, then picked up a napkin to wipe her sticky fingers.
“Not for me.” His voice held a teasing note. “I know I’ll never look at a strawberry in quite the same way again.” His huskily spoken words didn’t help cool her body’s reaction to him.
She swallowed back a groan and tried to put this conversation on a less provocative track, which was difficult when just the sound of this man’s voice was a seduction in and of itself.
“Well, uh, thank you for your help.” She put on her most polite smile before remembering her manners. “I’m Georgia Brooks, by the way.”
“Happy to be of assistance, Georgia.” Even the way he drawled her name sent delicious shivers down her spine. “I’m assuming you’re Roland Brooks’ daughter since I saw you sitting at his table?”
“Yes.” Now that he was so close, she studied his gorgeous face, and that earlier feeling of familiarity returned, along with a jolt of recognition. “And you’re Drew Daniels.”
His brows rose in surprise. “Does my reputation precede me?”
She laughed and shook her head. “I thought you looked familiar when I first saw you earlier. I recognized you from the photos for the upcoming bachelor auction. I work for Future Fast Track, and we just received the booklets for the charity event. Your picture and profile are inside.”
He cringed and pushed his hands into the front pockets of his slacks. “Ah, yes, I got roped into that event. Not my thing, but I’m all about supporting a good cause. Not to mention, my sister-in-law, Chloe, twisted my arm. Aurora is her sister.”
