“Even though he broke your heart in the past?” Spencer pointed out.

She nodded. “Yes. We were both young and the timing between us was all wrong.” She could look back with a clear mind and admit that now, even if the result had been her meeting and marrying Jack.

Her brother tipped his head to the side, not completely convinced. “And now it’s not?”

“And now . . . well, we’re reconnecting,” she said carefully. “And I’d like you to give Tripp a fair chance and get to know him because he really is a good, upstanding guy.”

Spencer hesitated a moment, then spoke. “Okay.” The look in his eyes finally softened, as if he truly realized how important this was to her—even if he didn’t know why. “For you, I will.”

She exhaled a breath, her own stress level over the situation alleviated. “Thank you, Spence.”

By the time Tripp returned to the table, her brother was noticeably calmer.

Spencer ran his fingers through his dark blond hair and shifted uncomfortably in his seat before addressing Tripp. “Hey, man.”

Skye held her breath as she waited to see what her brother might say.

“I’m really sorry that I was a jerk when I came to the table earlier. It was a gut reaction more than anything,” Spencer said, manning up, and making her proud of him.

“I understand,” Tripp said, his tone sincere. “I’m just glad Skye has a brother who cares so much and looks out for her.”

“Always,” Spencer replied, and Skye tried not to roll her eyes at the subtle warning in her brother’s tone, as if he was silently making sure that Tripp knew he’d be answering to him if he hurt Skye in any way.

The cellphone that Spencer had placed on the table buzzed, and he checked whatever message had just come through. “My date just got here and we’re heading to the restaurant for dinner. You two want to join us?” he asked, clearly extending an olive branch.

She appreciated the offer, but the last thing she wanted to do was sit through a long meal with Spencer and whatever woman he was hooking up with, making small talk. No, she’d rather head back to the penthouse and spend the rest of the evening alone with Tripp.

“Thank you, but we have other plans,” she said, then realizing how that sounded, she added quickly, “Have a nice evening with your lady friend.”

Spencer stood up to leave, and this time when the men shook hands, they did so with mutual respect, like civilized gentlemen.

Once her brother was gone, Skye leaned back in her seat and exhaled a long breath, feeling as though she’d just been put through the wringer. “Well, that was fun,” she said, her tone wry.

Tripp groaned as he withdrew cash from his wallet to pay their bill, along with a generous tip. “Definitely not my idea of a good time, getting lambasted by my girl’s brother.”

She arched a playful brow at him, beyond ready to lighten things up after that heavy conversation with Spencer. “Then tell me, what is your idea of a good time?” she asked in a seductive tone.

Tripp turned fully toward her, his body shielding her from anyone looking their way as he placed a hand on her knee beneath the table. Leaning closer, he put his mouth to her ear as he slowly slid his hot palm up her thigh. “How about you, naked, and moaning my name while I do dirty, filthy things to this delectable pussy, which, as I recall, I promised to lick and eat?”

Need instantly clamored inside of her, and she parted her legs as he skimmed those wicked fingers higher, until he encountered bare, damp flesh.

“Fuck.” He growled against her neck at the discovery. “I had no idea you weren’t wearing any panties tonight.”

“Surprise,” she said, her voice soft and breathless as he fingered her, her arousal ramping up at the possibility of them getting caught in such a compromising position. “Just providing easy access, as you’d requested.”

“Such a naughty, dirty girl,” he said on a low growl.

She gasped as he pushed two fingers deep, sweeping his thumb across her clit and lighting up sensitive nerve endings.

“That order was for when we were in the suite, not out in public, but I’m not going to deny this is so damn hot. Though, I ought to punish you for being so bad by making you come right here and now,” he said, as he pumped those thick digits in and out of her, and it took all her effort not to squirm or grind down on his hand for more friction.

She whimpered, for his ears only, as with every stroke she melted, her body turning into a molten puddle of lust and need.

He lifted his head and she glanced at him with desperation, unsure if he was going to follow through on his threat to make her come in the dimly lit lounge. She was torn between being appalled at the idea, and wanting him to do just that.
