“Let me go, you bastard! You can’t do this to me! I’m a woman!”

“A woman who’s fighting against a police officer,” Tripp said.

He was standing immediately to Jayme’s left, ready to jump in if need be.

“I hate you! I hate you! You ruined my life! You ruined my life!” she wailed.

“I ruined your life? I don’t think so. You did this shit to yourself,” Jayme said.

“It’s all your fault! You left me! You ruined everything! We were supposed to be together forever! Have babies and live happily ever after! You screwed it all up!”

Jayme snapped a cuff on the wrist that was behind her back, before yanking her other arm back; and handcuffing that one too. Mallory sobbed as he marched her to their truck. He sat her in the backseat, and slammed the door shut. His hands were shaking. How dare she accuse him of ruining her life. He didn’t do this to her, she did it to herself.

Tripp got on the phone and called for a tow for the car. They waited until it got there and took the car away, before getting back in their truck. At least Mallory was quiet now. She had a bit of a meltdown when the tow truck arrived. She had kicked at the windows and the wire mesh that separated her from the front seats. She had also screamed so loud, that they could hear her on the street. She probably had no voice left.

He could feel Tripp’s eyes on him as he drove. He knew Tripp was worried about him, and his state of mind at the moment. If anything, he was pissed. Pissed that she thought it was his fault her life is the way it is.

“I’m glad my son doesn’t have to grow up with a couple of gay ass pussies like you two,” Mallory rasped.

Jayme sucked in a sharp breath, as pain from her words cut him deep. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tight, his knuckles turned white. He clenched his jaw, refusing to say anything in retaliation; because that’s what she wanted. She was trying to get under their skin.

“Keep talking, and I’ll make sure to trip your fucking ass; and let you bite the fucking curb,” Tripp said in a tone that Jayme had never heard before. It was fucking scary. Tripp then turned slightly and looked at her through the mesh. “I dare you to try me.”

The look on Tripp’s face is one he would never forget. He could have killed someone with that look. It had murder written all over it. It scared him yet excited him at the same time. He had no doubt that Tripp would actually do it. He’d trip her and let her fall without any hands to catch herself.

“It’s okay, Tripp,” he said in a soothing tone.

“No, it’s not fucking okay, Jayme. I’m tired of this bitch hurting you. She’s done it too many times, and I’m sick of it.”

Jayme couldn’t argue with him there. She had hurt him, many times. First by lying to him and trying to get pregnant without his okay, then he found out she cheated on him; then, of course, the whole thing with the baby not being his, and that last comment definitely left a mark.

They got to the station, and Tripp insisted that he walk her in. He gripped her upper arm and yanked her out of the truck. She stumbled and fell to her knees. She started crying again. Probably because she was scared of him.

“Get the fuck up,” Tripp barked, and used her arm to help pull her to her feet.

“Ow, Tripp, you’re hurting my arm,” she cried.

“Good. You fucking deserve it.” He growled.

Jayme walked behind them, as Tripp practically dragged Mallory into the detainment area of their station. Tripp brought her to the main desk and shoved her down into the chair that was next to it. He then told the cop working there the slew of charges they were giving her.

With that taken care of, they left Mallory there; and went to write out their own reports. He could tell Tripp was still fuming as he hastily jotted down his report. He wished he could pull Tripp into a hug and try to calm him down, but they had to be professional at work. It would have to wait until they got home.

“Hey guys, what’s going on?” Brendan said as he stopped next to the pair of desks they were using.

“Fuck off,” Tripp muttered without looking up.

Brendan jerked his chin back and looked at Jayme with wide eyes. “What crawled up his ass and died?”

He shook his head. “We arrested Mallory on a DUI, among other things; and she just rubbed him the wrong way.”

“No shit?” Brendan said, eyebrows hitting his hairline. “Was the baby with her?”
