I closed my eyes because it was fucking torture.

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Her strands of hair fell down to my chest as she dipped her head to kiss me, to press those pillow-like lips against mine. “I’m not letting you go.”

I inhaled a deep breath as I kissed her, the pain in my chest rising to a new level. This was the sexiest Scarlett had ever been, fighting for me like a soldier on a battlefield. It made me fall for her harder—and it made it hurt a million times more.

Her kisses deepened as my mouth reciprocated, and soon her tongue was in my mouth, dancing with mine.

My restraint came loose, and my hands gripped her perky ass, kneading the muscle under the soft flesh. I turned my head to kiss her at a different angle, pulling her toward me, lifting my hips so she could feel how hard she made me. “Baby…” I spoke against her mouth as I unclasped her bra and let it fall off her shoulders.

She grabbed the top of my boxers and tugged everything down, letting my cock come free.

I grabbed her thong and yanked it to the side, stretching the fabric until it nearly came apart.

She slid down my length, her tight opening taking me slowly until she pushed through, sliding down my base until she could go no further. Her lips paused against mine as she breathed, as she panted at the feeling of me inside her.

My hands were on her ass again, squeezing those cheeks.

She started to move on top of me, slide up and down, fuck me nice and slow as her warm breaths blanketed my face.

My hand slid into her hair, and I tilted my head back so I could watch her face as she moved on top of me, as I felt the connection between our souls, the burn of our hearts. In that moment, I could have fallen even deeper, but then I was reminded of my ugly reality…that this could only end one way.

When I woke up the next morning, she was beside me.

She was hooked around my body, her arm across my chest, her hair a mess from the way I’d ruffled it the night before. We’d left the couch and made it to the bed, and she was so fucking irresistible that I couldn’t stop myself. I made love to her all night and enjoyed every damn second of it.

But now the morning came—and reality with it.

“Fuck,” I said under my breath. I scooted out of the bed and was careful not to wake her before I put on my clothes and stepped into the other room. It was cowardly just to take off and leave her there, but I didn’t know what else to do. If Dante knew she’d slept over here, my father would be dead.

“Are you leaving?” Her voice reached me from the other room.

I froze on the spot, caught in the act.

She left the bed, pulled on one of my t-shirts, and then joined me in the other room. Accusation was in her eyes, like she knew nothing had changed despite her expert seduction. “I meant what I said last night.” She looked me dead in the eye, her confidence sexy. “I’m not going to let you go. So whatever issues you have, we can work them out together.”

This was worse than breaking up with her. She fought for me because she knew that what we had was real, that my abrupt change in attitude wasn’t powerful enough to change that fact. She believed in me more than anyone else ever had. What the fuck was I supposed to say to that? “Last night was just a booty call as far as I’m concerned.”

Her eyes retained their confidence. “Right.”

“I meant what I said before. We’re done.”

“Just tell me the truth. Because I don’t believe a word of this bullshit.”

“The truth is, I’m bored with you,” I said. “It was fun and exciting—”

“Fuck off, Axel,” she snapped. “It’s my father, isn’t it? That’s the only explanation for all of this bullshit—”

“Your father has nothing to do with this.” I had to convince her of that, because if she accused her father of an intervention, he’d kill both of my parents. I couldn’t tell her and ask her to keep it a secret because the knowledge would make her treat her father differently, and he would pick up on that. “If he did, I would just tell you.”

Her eyes watched mine, shifting back and forth.

“I’ve come to realize I want something else—”

“I can’t listen to this anymore.” She walked to the couch and grabbed the clothes she’d worn the night before, her bra and dress, and quickly put them back on. “When you decide to be a man and tell me the truth, you know where to find me.” She slipped on her heels, grabbed her purse, and then walked out.
