“It’s decent to greet the owner of a house if I’m going to be spending time here,” Kayden says.

Of course, that’s all. It’s not like he’s feeling the same impulses flurrying through me.

Kayden walks toward me. I move toward the doorway, seeing him out, but I don’t want him to leave. I want to make him stay somehow, to talk with him a little longer.

“Are you still going to trust me with your tattoo?” I ask, my tone joking.

He stands at the door, smirking down at me. I want to fall against him, to press my body against his and feel his firmness. Not just for the physical act of it. I mean… he’s hot. There’s no way I can deny that, but I want to feel the reassurance—the knowledge he wants the same things as me.

“I trust you,” he says. “I saw your work. It was all excellent quality.”

The compliment makes me giddier that it probably should, my heart picking up pace as I let his words wrap me in a warm blanket.

“When did you start art?”

He takes a step forward, suddenly seeming more intense, looking down at me with jaw tensed and his eyes flaring even more.

“When I was a kid,” I reply, voice breathy as I take in the closeness of him, his heaving body. “I always loved drawing. Dad encouraged it. Then one day, I asked Dad about his tattoos. He’s got a bunch from his service days. The way he talked about them…”

I trail off, realizing I’m probably giving him way more detail than he needs.

“What?” he says, sounding genuinely interested as he moves even closer.

Does he know he’s almost touching me? He’s so close, I’m sure I can feel the heat coming off his body in waves, radiating passion as he stares at me.

“You don’t need to hear all this,” I say softly.

“I’m interested.”

“Well…” My hands suddenly feel like they should be doing something, like I should reach up and cling onto his side. “He was so passionate, explaining how much each one meant to him. It made me want to help other people follow their passion. So, I started practicing on fake skin. Dad was so supportive. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as fake skin before he told me.”

Somebody save me. I’m really blabbing now.

“I can hear how much passion you have for it,” Kayden says, his voice deep. “It’s good to know I’ll be in safe hands.”

“Oh, definitely. Like…”

“Like?” he prompts.

I feel like I really am going crazy now. He’s leaning down toward me, like any second he’s going to kiss me. Grab my shoulders… otherwise, I’ve got no clue why he’s raising his hands slowly, like part of him isn’t sure we should do this.

“Like I felt out there,” I whisper. “When you stood up for me. Nobody’s ever done that for me before.”

“You deserve it. You deserve to feel safe.”

His hands squeeze my shoulders. His touch burns through me, scorches up and down my body, through my chest, through everything as he squeezes me even tighter. He makes a savage moaning sound, disbelief, as if he didn’t plan on this.

“Kayden?” I whisper.

He leans down. “Tell me I’ve lost my mind…”

“Maybe you have,” I say, “but I think I have, too.”

He smirks, laughing huskily, so close his breath tickles over my cheeks and my face.

“Good,” he says.

He kisses me hard.

I gasp, then I can’t make any noise as our mouths open. Warmth dances and shimmers around my mouth, my chest getting hot as he crushes me with his passion. Our tongues are finding each other. We’re desperate for more, both of us instantly hungry.

I’ve never felt anything like this, as he pushes against me, groaning, his arms wrapping around me to protect my back as I gently nudge into the wall. Our bodies press close as he snarls through the kiss, like he can’t get enough of me, as I taste him and tell myself this is really happening, but just telling myself isn’t enough.

I wrap my arms around him, squeezing onto his back.

CHAPTER

NINE

Kayden

She giggles when I lift her off her feet, cradling her to my chest. I didn’t plan on letting myself go like this, but the second I stood close to her—her scent washing around me—I knew I had to have her.

It was like the primal part of me pulled a triggered, and now I’ve got one hand cradled beneath her legs, greedily squeezing her side, and the other bracing her back. She throws both her arms around me, her fingernails digging into my shoulders.

“You’re perfect,” I growl passionately, my manhood solid as it pushes against my pants, my muscles bulging as I struggle to contain myself even here.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” she whimpers, her voice catching.

The high pitch just makes me even more savage, my balls swelling at the naivety in her voice. She’s as swept up as I am.
