She lets out a frustrated groan, knowing I’m holding something back, but she does what she’s told. Bri sits and watches for a while before a gleam appears in her eyes and she disappears from the room.

I don’t have time to dwell on it before Cass comes down the hallway looking like an absolute snack in a black dress that clings to her body and dips low between her tits. She matches it with strappy black high heels and my mouth starts to water.

“Fuck me,” I whisper as she struts past.

“I’m not a little girl anymore, Jax,” she says, like the little seductress she is.

“No, you most certainly are not,” I agree. I follow her to the door and reach around her to open it like any well-behaved gentleman should. As we reach my truck, I offer my arm and help her up, because let’s face it, her father would come back from the grave and bust my balls if I didn’t.

“Where are we going?” she asks as I climb into my truck and start the engine. I give her a pointed stare before turning back to the road. “Right, okay. I get it,” she scoffs, once again annoyed to be held back from her answers.

Her eyes light up when I pull into the parking lot of her favorite Italian restaurant. She looks over at me and gives me a knowing smile before grabbing her purse and hopping out. I meet her at the front of my truck and silently lace my fingers through hers.

Leading her through the door and to our table, she gapes at me with wide eyes. “You booked?” she gasps.

A grin plasters across my face. “Yes,” I say, knowing exactly where she’s going with this.

“You’ve never booked a restaurant in your life.”

I pull out her chair and help her in before heading around and sitting before her. I order her a glass of wine and get myself a beer so the waiter can scamper off.

“What’s all this about?” she asks.

“Can’t we just enjoy dinner together?”

“No,” she scoffs. “You have an ulterior motive or . . . I don’t know.”

“I haven’t seen you in three years,” I remind her. “Is it too much for me to want to spend time with you?”

She considers it for a moment but gives up her line of questing with a slight nod.

The waiter comes around with our drinks and takes our orders as my gaze rests on her, blown away by her dazzling beauty. “Tell me about New York?” I ask as we wait for our dinner.

Her brows furrow as her gaze lifts back to mine, hesitance in her eyes. “You really want to know about that?” she asks, nervously.

“Yeah, I do,” I admit with a small nod. “We used to be together every day. Not a thing happened in your life that I didn’t know about. Even though it sucked that you weren’t around, I still feel like I need to know every detail about your life.”

“Okay,” she says, a soft smile spreading across her face. Then with that, she launches into her spiel about her life over the past three years. She tells me about her dorm mate for the first year and the apartment she moved into after that. The friends she made and the ones she regrets.

We sit at the table for hours filling each other in on all the details of our lives before the restaurant staff starts giving us dirty looks and subtle hints to vacate the table.

“Come on,” I say, walking around and helping her from her chair. I settle the bill and lead her outside where we walk past my truck and to a little park.

A tiny little smirk plays over her lips, and I grow suspicious. “What?”

She grins up at me. “I was just remembering that time I was in my first bikini and you were gawking at me from your bedroom window like a dirty little perv. You were probably jacking off so hard you would’ve been tearing the skin right off your dick.”

“Ha. Babe, it wasn’t the bikini that had me gawking,” I explain. “It was the first time I noticed you had tits.” She rolls her eyes, but I continue. “I swear, it went from like nothing to something overnight.”

“Shut up,” she says, nailing me in the ribs.

“That’s not even the worst I did,” I admit.

Her eyes narrow on me. “Spill it, Payne. Get it all out in the open.”

I grin as I recap the story. “We were maybe sixteen or seventeen, and I’d gotten home from hockey camp early, so I snuck over to surprise you, but you were in the shower with the door cracked.” She narrows her eyes in suspicion, clearly wondering where the hell this is going. After all, we used to shower together all the time. “You were rubbing that sweet little clit and moaning.”
