I lowered my mouth to hers so that our lips brushed as I spoke. “It’s just a kiss. That’s all they’ll see.”

I waited three racing heartbeats, giving her a moment to say no.

Her chin tipped back subtly, an invitation. I caressed her lips with mine, tasting the chocolate on her tongue. As I stroked into her mouth, my thumb found her clit, and I pressed down on the hard bud through her thin dress and lace panties. I rubbed her in a firm, circular motion. She was so on edge that she orgasmed almost immediately, gasping into my mouth.

My good girl was quiet and still, enduring the pleasure rushing through her without crying out in ecstasy. My control over her went straight to my head. The rush of power was more intense than any physical release I’d ever experienced.

She softened in my arms, her kiss turning languid. I slowly pulled my hand away from her clit. She would be overly sensitive, and I wouldn’t torment her. Not when she’d been so well behaved for me.

I pressed a final kiss to her swollen lips. “You did so well.”

She melted against me, clinging to me for comfort in the wake of our intense exchange. I could feel the heat of her cheek on my neck, and I decided to have some mercy on her. She would need reassurance and privacy to process what we’d just shared.

“You’ll have to excuse us,” I said to Stefano and Carmen, but I didn’t take my eyes off my precious prize. “Evelyn is tired.”

“Of course,” Carmen replied, her voice lilting with amusement. The cartel queen clearly didn’t have a problem with our activities at her dining table.

I helped Evelyn to her feet, and to her credit, her knees didn’t shake. Placing a bracing hand on her lower back, I guided her out of the opulent dining room. Once we reached the privacy of our suite upstairs, I’d reassure her and lavish her with praise. Judging by the way she leaned into me, she wasn’t upset by what we’d just done. She might be embarrassed and a little confused at her lustful reaction to my sensual game, but she wasn’t distraught.

I pulled her close as we stepped into the privacy of the elevator. “You’re perfect, Evelyn.”

I sealed my promise with a fierce kiss.

Chapter 6

Evelyn

Everything felt slightly surreal: my wanton behavior at dinner last night, the fact that I was now on a private jet enroute to Colombia, and the possibility that the gorgeous man sitting next to me was completely devoted to me. At the very least, Massimo was infatuated with me.

It was bizarre, utterly disconnected from my mundane life as it had been only a few days ago. I’d gone to work teaching English at the university every day, and at night, I’d returned to the tiny apartment that I’d tried to make into a home for George and me. Our relationship hadn’t been passionate, but I’d loved him.

At least, I thought I did. Now I wasn’t sure what love even was. Because it wasn’t lies and betrayal: what George had offered me in the end. He’d been working with the cartel, and when my life had been in danger, he’d stood there and watched. He hadn’t said a word to stop his criminal associate from shooting me.

“What are you thinking about?” Massimo stroked my hair back from my cheek. “Are you nervous about the flight?”

“I’m nervous about accompanying a drug lord to meet his other cartel friends in Colombia,” I burst out before I could think better of it. Stefano had stepped into a separate, private compartment to make a phone call. If he’d been present, I wouldn’t have dared such raw honesty. But I didn’t have to hold back around Massimo. I couldn’t.

My dark protector’s full lips pressed into a grim line, but his fingers remained featherlight as they brushed through my hair in a soothing motion.

“I have business in Colombia,” he replied evenly. “We’ve discussed this. I won’t leave you alone in Mexico City. Soon enough, we’ll be safely back in Naples, and then you won’t need to concern yourself with my business ever again.”

“Naples?” Fear wrapped around my windpipe. It was difficult to draw enough breath to demand, “Who said I’m going to Naples?”

When I was in Massimo’s arms, it was so much easier to allow myself to drift, to live in the moment instead of falling prey to panic. My entire life was spinning out of my control, and his solid presence had been my anchor.

But he was the one taking me farther away from America. He wanted to take me to Italy with him.

His dark brows lowered into harsh slashes over his remarkable eyes. “I did. You’re mine. You said it yourself. That means you’re coming home with me.”

I shook my head wildly. “Italy is your home, not mine.”
